Im fairly new to FCE & livetype,

im currently looking for the best way to add text to my film.

currently im doing this:

1. importing videos into FCE then editing the video.
2. opening livetype creating my text saving it.
3. importing the ipr file into FCE
4. notice its not at the right point.
5 repeat 2-4 till its perfect which takes ages hours

is there a better way of doing this?

im pretty sure there is. but if you could give me the steps on what to do that be very appericated.

thanks

OK what you're doing wrong is in step 3 onward.
3.) Once you open up livetype make sure your Edit->Project Properties are set to match your FCE canvas
4. Now type in the text you want.

5.Now go to File -> Render Movie
Don't select "render background" unless you have imported a specific background you want and know what you're doing :)
Name the resulting file whatever you want, but don't put an extension on it.

6. Open FCE and your project
7. Select File->Import and find the file you just exported
8. Drag the video clip from your bin to a new video track on the timeline above your current one.
9. If you don't like the placement of the video, double click the text track to make sure it is highlighted in the Canvas
10. Click on the little square icon at the top of the canvas window. LCick and hold down on that and it should give you the option to show "image + wireframe".. do that
11. You should now see a blue rectangle around your text with a pair of white lines crossing through the middle in the canvas window.
12. Now left click and hold to drag your video clip ( which happens to be your text ) around to whatever position you want.

13. Done. :)

If you have your project settings in Livetype correct, you shouldn't
even need to do an FCE render after that to see it in action.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: I did just read that you *can* import the project files from Livetype without penalty in Final Cut so you can follow what I've done from steps 6 onward with your livetype project file if you'd prefer.
