What? World of Warcraft has always been an easy to play kids game. Try playing a real MMO like EVE Online.

Isn't the whole concept of playing a "game" to forget about adult problems and pretend we are "kids" again, for whatever moment we can?

Also, Eve is boring. =)

Sure. That is the appeal of World of Warcraft which I fully understand and appreciate. I used to play it myself and had lots of fun doing so. I just find it amusing when people say that World of Warcraft is turning into a kids game. It has always been a kids game (in a good way) you just know not to treat it like a serious game because it has never been serious.

Blizzard have a history of having lots of jokes in their games and World of Warcraft is no different. So to sum up play the game and enjoy it but don't take it seriously. If you want a serious game play EVE Online.

This is going to be the first expansion I won't play and I used to be a very active player right from the start until about a few months into Cataclysm. I was really hoping they would look at the figures and make an amazing expansion to bring the game back from plunging to its doom and there is just nothing in the expansion that appeals to me this time around. I just went back the other day after beta testing GW2 and it's in need of a massive overhaul. The more you play GW2, the more you realise a WOW2 would actually work and could be incredible. I think they will do it, most don't but it would be insane to not bring a sequel to such a huge cash cow. I'd bet money on it.

I'm not sure whether to buy this. I currently find myself playing WoW less than about 2 hours a month.

I never enjoyed World of Warcraft. Not to say it's a bad game or anything. I would kill for Warcraft IV. Diablo 3 was pretty great. If I could even install Warcraft 3 on lion/ML I would be pretty happy. I mean it's just the installer thats incompatible... update it...

The new installer works fine. I did it last week on the GM seed.

You have to go to battle.net and click on the download client link.

Really I had no idea. Did your mac have snow leopard installed when you installed warcraft 3? I'm just curious. I've looked around a bit trying to find info...

Pandaren!

Pandaren is not a ripoff of kungfu panda, the race was actually introduced in Warcraft II.

You appear to have pulled that "fact" out your ass.

It dropped 100k players and then regained them after The Old Republic tanked. Still remains at over 10 million active users.

That's one of the minor dips. Where's your source stating they regained subscribers after TOR's flop? They were at 12 million active subscriptions, but that's been dropping up to about March 2012. So to use your expression, you can't see that as you've got your head up your ass.

Like I said, funny how Blizzard don't report the average number of people actually playing. Giving away their latest game to try to stem WoW's decline? Stinks of desperation to me.

While PC-only, Guild Wars 2 is where it is at next month :p

I got Guild Wars 2 (beta) running on my iMac (late 2010) in bootcamp, no problem.

Having played the Beta, personally I don't think it's going to take me away from WoW but I remain to be convinced; though I know a lot of people who share your view

I have put over 100 hours in the betas...I know it is kind of sad haha...so I really think if you have doubts, give it some more time and I think you will fall in love with it.

Calling for Warcraft IV pls...

The game used to be great, but it's slowly declined from the mid-late TBC days. Some parts of WOTLK were good, such as improved artwork and less copy+paste, but WoW's being slowly converted into an easy to play kids game.

Yes, a kid game, but formerly a more challenging one. My brother and I did the grind through vanilla and TBC: it took forever (I remember being stuck in Plaguelands and Tanaris for a looong time) and was difficult. WotLK was ok, but the changes in Cataclysm were a slap in the face to current players. TBC= lvl 20 after quite some playing, Cata= lvl 20 after about two hours.

But, honestly, it is still the best MMO out there by default and the strength of the community. What are the other choices? GW, EVE, TOR...and The Old Republic bombed and is bleeding out now. Blizzard (not Activision) was ambitious, and it paid off.

Also, does anyone else find this expansion kind of creepy?

I will reserve judgement until it comes out and I play it... but it looks both creepy and stupid to me. I guess we should just be glad they didn't come out with sparkling vampires.
