So if I download the burning crusade expansion, I'll be able to upgrade to a pay account? I'm confused.
 
From what I can gather, if you buy a retail copy of the original game you can then enter the authorisation key into your existing account. The expansion requires the original game first.
 
You buy an account though the website. At no time do you have to get a boxed version. Shouldn't have any problems upgrading trial to payed.
 
I think you can download a 10-day trial for WoW, and then upgrade to a pay account. Then later you can get a 10 day burning crusade trial before you buy it. 20 days of free play! hah

On a side note, I was able to buy the boxed WoW and a 60 day game card together (so 90 days of play) on Amazon for some incredibly low price. you might want to shop and around and see if anyone has any sales like that (though I did get mine a year ago)

That's the plan. I can't abandon my friends here at MR. as soon as my trial ends I'm deleting it and never going back again. Plus I'm going to be cut off from my pool of the family income at the end of the month and I need money for my iPhone data plan. 🙂
 
WoW is fun if you know that you are becoming addicted.... Luckily for me I have alot of other things to do, if not for those I would most likley have gained 5 pounds and become a drooling lump 🙂

Another WoW player here, on the Sen'jin realm I'm Ronyg a Horde priest, and on the Blades Edge realm I'm Ekklesia a Horde Mage. Currently both level 28.
 
I play WoW... but I'm hardly an addict. Does one or two hours a week count as an addict? 😛 I spend far more time reading books or hanging with my friends or studying.

yeah, unlike the hundreds (maybe thousands?) of other people that plan their whole lives around raids and pvp!

this game ruins lives! 🙂


I was a casual player (1-2 hours on the weekdays, 4-6 hours on weekends) and I had to give it up. It took a while, but I finally realized that the game is endless and feels more like a chore than anything.

This thread gives me the strange urge to return...
 
Hi,

Ive been playing WoW on the PC for ages, but I have just changed over to Mac.

I have just installed WoW on my PowerMac G4 and it runs great. However I am planning on upgrading to a newer mac in the new year and just wanted to know that instead of going thorugh the long install process and patch downloads if I can just copy over the WoW folder to my new machine. Are all the files in this folder? Or will i have to look through the whole system drive?

You could just copy the folder (that would work), but since you're moving to a new computer you are probably better off using Migration Assistant to import all of your preferences, files and applications with Target Disk Mode and a firewire cable.
 
Warcraft

I'm not sure that playing Warcraft is any more or less of a waste of time than browsing or playing on your console, if pc using/gaming is how you spend your free time, then, that's just the way it is..

I think the idea of group play would force you to plan your life around it in order to accommodate other people..Ergo when I play I just complete quests and level up my character when I'm bored of browsing mp3 blogs..

The idea that I'd have to come home from the pub early to go on a raid seems ridiculous..But for some people,its what they enjoy..

Also I'm not really one for D&D so here's to hoping they make a Starcraft mmorpg soon.

It also helps if all your friends play it too. And you go raiding with them. 😀

Or you could completely waste your life without paying... on a *gasp* Private server *gasp* I know I know, not the most legal and awesome thing, but at least on WoWscape you get high rates (x60 exp. x40 drop😀)
I don't think I could ever go back to lowrate servers. The only bad thing about Private servers is the reality of lots and lots of buggy buggy buggy bugs.
 
This game needs to be played in moderation. But once you start raiding you have to at least play alot one or two nights a week. You do not really need to worry about that until a very high level so enjoy running around, discovering new areas, and learning how to play. When you get bored of questing, dig into a profession and learn it. When you get bored of that, do some PVP. As long as you can quit and do other things then I see no problem with playing this game alot....maybe that's b/c I do 😎 But I have a very active life outside of gaming.

when you find yourself questing/raiding every night of the week at the sacrifice of friends and family, just don't say we didn't warn you 🙂
 
The problem with Warcraft, well at least it was when i played, was that the game isn't very rewarding for "casual" players.

If you want high end content and game items, you really need to grind it out in a pve or pvp guild/group that also does the grind. Otherwise your stuck in a mediocre guild or possibly in a very good guild still...no one's going to give you 1st dibbs if you don't have your DKP built up...which pretty much means your SOL no matter how you look at it.

I've met people that don't mind casual playing, but when you look at the guilds and individuals that get the best and get it first. It's just not achievable by casual playing.

This is where the addiction takes place. You want better stuff? well your not going to get it by logging out 😛
