Wow. Impressive, but as others have said, pretty darn ugly. Cruise ships these days are all about maximum volume. Their lines are spoiled by the superstructure.

Gone are the days of the great Cunard and White Star liners, or even the last couple generations of true liners like the Normandie, United States and Queen Elizabeth.

It's a land resort, with pontoons and changing scenery.

A true cruise ship, IMO, should be your hotel for sleeping, while it cruises to the next interesting port for morning departure.

I'd like to do Hawaii again, some day, on one of their island sightseeing cruises.

... I remember seeing something like this before...

Circa May 31, 1911

That's because the copied the old design...down to the "too few lifeboats" feature. 22 lifeboats for 3000 people not including crew and entertainers.
Maybe they think it's like Mad Magazine's HMS Tyrannic. "So safe, it has no insurance."

Or the current equivalent would be: "Safe as houses" Eek!

i saw a report about a similiar ship (perhaps even this one) and it a had like a full scale shopping mall inside of it going across 3 floors ...

Might be the one I posted earlier.

I have to admit, having grass on a cruise ship would be insane, it just seems really out of place though.

i am with .Andy.
that sailing boat is beautiful and i'd love to sail on her.
this cruise ship is certainly impressive, but i fail to see the point of spending money and vacation time shut in a hotel, even if it moves around.

however, a cruise ship would be a great setting for a scientific conference.

what a waste. maybe another one will come out next year, even bigger.

"mine's bigger than yours", "no mine is", "no mine is"...

Probably no more than any other cruise ship. In fact the larger ships tend to be less expensive to book. It's the small cruise ships with the relatively primitive accommodations which are more costly for passengers.

Yes, it's those smaller lines, with the passenger to crew ratio or 3 to 1 that are the problem. ;)

Try booking a smaller vessel, perhaps one running under sail..

That's the attraction of these huge ships to the cruise lines. They're relatively cheap to operate on a per-passenger basis.

Ostentatious, my dear Watson.

Despite it's size (or because of it, I'm not sure) I just wouldn't feel safe on something like that..

Cruise ships - container ships for people. Pack 'em in! :D

Maybe back in the olden days. Nowadays, even the cheapest ticket gets you a pretty comfortable cabin... next to the engines.:p

Oh, and I think I've figured out their solution to the lifeboat shortage problem.

Lifeboat drills will be scheduled as follows:
First Class - first day of the cruise
Second Class - last day of the cruise:confused:
Steerage - last day of the cruise, upon docking:eek:
