If I spent 2-3 grand on a computer, I wouldn't want any flaws with the display. After all, that's the one aspect of the computer you're spending 99% of your time looking at. One dead pixel can get very annoying. I've got 2 on my iphone, but I don't hold that device up to as high a standard.

doesn't apple keep tab of how many exchanges one can make?
13 times on an ipod touch..
if i was the manager, i'll just give this guy a free one..
to save me the horror of seeing him the next day..

i'm sure all the apple reps there have a nickname for him/her. :D
13 times?? my God!
you should have the Attorney general's phone number on speed dial!

chinarider - a polite question: How can you be a demi-god if you haven't had a Mac since those days and are not up on the OS etc.?

What makes a demi-god?

Money.

In all seriousness, I didnt ask for the title - But after being here for 3 months and learning so much from you all, I decided to contribute. So I sent in $25 because I believe in this site. And i've never done this before on any other board.

Sure, there are alot of Wackos here - but for the most part this community is awesome and has helped me immensely. To get all my questions answered for less than one percent of the price I paid for the product I bought - Not to mention all the extras (and I am an editor) - Worth it for me.

Screw the title - I can only hope to be able to contribute as much and help others here some day as I've been helped.

Not that I know what a dead pixel looks like, but the statement one dead pixel sounds like such a minute problem.

Also, looking at your post, my guess is that you were a little too picky when it came to some of your problems if you actually returned an iPod Touch 13 times - and if you did, a word of advice: Don't purchase iPod Touches from homeless men on the street.

Seriously, I've heard of things being returned twice - but thirteen? That's a bit ridiculous, don't you think?

Exagerated a bit, I didn't keep an exact tab,it was probably around 10. I work at Best Buy, so before even doing a return-exchange process we opened up the iPod touch and they all had the same problem, one after the next. If you spend that much on a device you expect it to be flawless.

now i understand!
it's good to work for an electronics store when you yourself like /love electronics

I find this forum the greatest source of information and it's just huge. Maybe theres bigger ones I don't know. I do frequent some smaller local forums and they just don't seem to discuss tinting or buzzing etc. I am getting my first mbp it should arrive tommorow, I was super hyped about it.

Then I read the mbp threads here and spent a few days thinking sigh im going to get a yellow screened , column led'd , buzzing bulging deadpixeled notebook with an offcentered and dysfunctional keyboard that wont connect to wifi.

I also live in the middle of no where so I cant just pop in a store an exchange it. In reality I dont think Apple is getting 75% failure rate on there notebooks, thats like 3 times worse than an xbox360 !

Oddly enough I bought my xbox360 on release day, and It's never red ringed or skipped a beat.

Anyway i'll be worried about till it comes.

Don't think too much!

If Apple was really getting a 75% failure rate there would be news articles about it, it's just lots of people come to complain on this forum. Also I'm not sure how many of the problems are just small ones that people obsess over(something I'm currently doing:p ). Anyway I think you'll be fine.

No Issues **Yet**

Just received my Base Model 15" 2.4 200GB Penryn
Screen is white with no yellowing (I went through 6 24" iMac's with yellow gradients to get this Macbook Pro)

No noisey, whining HD or static audio

Sure I've only played with it for 30mins but Im feeling confident with it

Goodluck - Just get one

Yeah I exchanged my defective Merom SR MBP for the base model Penryn MBP today and it's almost like night and day, no noisy buzzing right fan, the screen seems better as in no yellow, and the static from headphone jack is gone.

I'm very happy now this MBP has restored my faith in the build quality of Apple computers.

chinarider - thanks for the explanation - I always wondered what was involved. Enjoy your Mac - we continue to be mesmerized by those we have owned.

i'd say you're just lucky.
