I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight....

This song has a very special place in my heart, as it happens.

;) Actually, when I was at school, one of the sixth formers from the boy's school next door came into our assembly and sung this. In front of 1000 girls. With a very earnest expression on his face. The reason it has a special place in my heart is that I have never laughed so much. Ever. In that uncontrollable silently shaking way, where you have to stuff things in your mouth to not make any noise. :D

"You're a fine piece of real estate and I'm gonna get me some land."

And who could forget...

"Oh, I'm gonna getcha, I'm gonna getcha real good
Yeah, you can betcha, oh, I'm gonna getcha
(I'm gonna getcha) just like I should, I'll getcha good
Oh, I'm gonna getcha good!"

Barf. Shania Twain sucks.

Look into my eyes - you will see...

Ugh... both of those songs make me throw up in my mouth a little™... especially the terrible [non-]rhyme of "dance" and "romance"
barf.gif

But how about this song:

Lemme hear ya say yeah! (yeah)
Lemme hear ya say yeah! (yeah)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no ,no ,no, no there's no limit!
No, no, no ,no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no there's no limit!
No no limits, we'll reach for the sky!
No valley to deep. No mountain too high.
No no limits, we'll give up the fight
We do what we want and we do it with pride.

Lemme hear ya say yeah! (yeah)
Hard to the core, I feel the floor.
When I'm on stage, yo, ya answer more.
I'm on the edge, I know the ledge,
I work real hard to collect my cash!
Tick tick ticka tick take your time,
When I'm goin' I'm goin' for mine.
Open your ears and you will hear it.
I tell you this 'cause there's no limit!

No limits allowed, cause there's much crowd,
microphone check as I choose my route.
I'm playing on the road; I've got no fear,
The south from my mouth is on record here.
There never will be no mountain too high.
Reach the top, touch the sky!
They tried to diss me cause I sell out...
I'm making techno and I am proud!

Kelly Clarkson is pretty bad as well, she's learned to walk on the sidewalk, because of you.

Actually, dcv's mention of No Limits reminded me of this little gem – Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65.

Yo listen up: here's a story
About a little guy
That lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees is
Just blue like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue Corvette and everything is blue for him
And himself and everybody around
'Cause he aint got nobody to listen: ...

I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)

I have a blue house with a blue window
Blue is the color of all that I wear
Blue are the streets and all the trees are too
I have a girlfriend and she is so blue
Blue are the people here that walk around
Blue like my Corvette it's standing outside
Blue are the words I say and what I think
Blue are the feeling that live inside me

I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)

~repeat the last verse~

I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)

Just blue like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue Corvette and everything is blue for him
And himself and everybody around
'Cause he aint got nobody to listen: ...

I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)
I'm blue (da ba dee)

They released a follow up single Move Your Body, which was more or less the same song with different lyrics. Unfortunately, they weren't an improvement...

jump your mind mind
jump your body move your mind
move your mind mind
jump your body body
jump your mind mind
jump your body move your mind
move your mind mind
jump your body move your

move your body,
every everybody.
move your body,
come on now everybody.
move your body, move your body.
everybody come on now everybody.

you want to move the world,
start with your body.
yo, come on you gotta start with something.
if you wanna move your mind,
just move your body.
move your mind, move your mind,
it's gonna cost you nothing.
you want to move someone,
start with your body.
yo come on and try ro move somebody.
if you wanna move alone,
then everybody will move along with you.

Genius. Pure musical genius.

The name rings a bell, but I can't think how the tune goes. This is probably a good thing though ;)

I can. Repeatedly. Jaffa Cake, you bastard....;)

You're welcome, Lau! :D

Sorry, dcv... I've just checked on the iTMS and Blue (Da Ba Dee) isn't on there – but luckily Move Your Body is! You can take a listen to that as a reminder, seeing as it is basically the same song...

You swine. Where I used to work, one of my colleagues sang this at least once a day for what seemed like three months. I thought I had successfully repressed this, but my brainwaves are now polluted again.

Oh and most of the songs from The Mars Volta. While they are not bad lyrics, they just don't make a damn bit of sense (to me). I'm sure somebody understands them but I might as well be listening to Ancient Greek put to rock music.

But they're a good band nonetheless

Gliddy gloob gloopy, nibby nobby nooby, la la la low low.
Saba sibby saba, nooby aba daba, lee lee low low.
Dooby ooby walla, nooby abba naba, early morning singing song.

Good one, "Good Morning, Starshine". Gives me the willies. But since we're in that date range, can you GET any worse than "Kung Fu Fighting"?

In the tradition of the band (and my personal favorite) Yes, the lyrics are not so much a story, but blended in as part of the tapestry. It's the sound, the cadence, and the visual effect it has. So sometimes "bad" lyrics are not bad at all. Look at them as another instrument.
If "bad" lyrics were defined this way, pretty much every Yes song would be suspected as having the worst.

Case in point: The Revealing Science of God:

Dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources,
Cahsed amid fusions of wonder, in moments hardly seen forgotten
Coloured in pastures of chance dancing leaves cast spells of challenge,
Amused but real in thought, we fled from the sea whole.
Dawn of thought transfered through moments of days undersearching earth
Revealing corridors of time provoking memories, disjointed but with
purpose,
Craving penetrations offer links with the self instructor's sharp
and tender love as we took to the air, a picture of distance.
Dawn of our power we amuse redescending as fast as misused
Expression, as only to teach love as to reveal passion chasing
Late into corners, and we danced from the ocean.
Dawn of love sent within us colours of awakening among the many
Won't to follow, only tunes of a different age, as the links span
Our endless caresses for the freedom of life everlasting.

Talk to the sunlight caller
Soft summer mover distance mine

Called out a tune but I never saw the face
Heard but not replaced
I ventured to talk, but I never lost my place

Cast out a spell rendered for the light of day
Lost in lights array
I ventured to see, as the sound began to play

What happened to this song we once knew so well
Signed promise for moments caught within the spell
I must have waited all my life for this
Moment moment

The future poised with the splendour just begun
The light we were as one
And crowded through the curtains of liquid into sun

And for a moment when our world had filled the skies
Magic turned our eyes
To feast on the treasure set for our strange device

What happened to wonders we once knew so well
Did we forget what happened surely we can tell
We must have waited all our lives for this
Moment moment moment

Star light movements in seasons
Release forward
Tallest rainbow
Sun shower seasons
Life flower reasons

They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can't believe that I can feel it
There's someone, to tell you,
amidthe challenge we look around in unison with you

Getting over overhanging trees
Let them rape the forest
Thoughts would send our fusion
Clearly to be home

Getting over wars we do not mean
Or so it seems so clearly
Sheltered with our passion
Clearly to be home

They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can't believe they really mean to
There's someone, to tell you,
And I just can't believe our song will leave you
Skyline teacher
Warland seeker
Send out poison
Cast iron leader

And through the rhythm of moving slowly
Sent through the rhythm work out the story
Move over glory to sons of old fighters past.
Young Christians see it from the beginning
Old people feel it that's what they're saying
Move over glory to sons of old fighters past.

The move fast, they tell me,
But I just can't believe they really mean to
There's someone, to tell you,
A course towards a universal season

Getting over overhanging trees let them
Rape the forest, they might stand and leave them
Clearly to be home
Getting over wars we do not mean
We charm the movement suffers
Call out all our memories
Clearly to be home

We've moved fast
We need love
A part we offer is our only freedom

What happened to this song we once knew so well
Signed promise for moments caught within the spell
We must have waited all our lives for this
Moment moment

Past present movers moments we'll process the future, but only
To touch him we know, send flowered rainbows
That chased flowers of dark and lights of songs
To you, show all we feel for and know of, cast round,
Youth is the truth accepting that reasons will relive
And breathe hope and chase and love
For you and you and you

Hmmmm, how about Macho Man? I mean, yes, YMCA was a classic. But that song was just repackaged vomit. :p

Busted.

"I've been to the year 3000
Not much has changed but they live underwater
And your great-great-great-granddaughter is pretty fine, is pretty fine"

NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED BUT THEY LIVE UNDERWATER!!!!!! That's a pretty significant effing change if you ask me!

Speaking of water, what about yellow submarine by the beatles.

We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

what a great song?

Not trying is the worst

Lots of bad songs here, but the worst is when you manage a hit without making an effort.

Donna Summer. "I Feel Love". Worst. . .Song. . .Ever.

You know the song--where the name is also the only lyric. Over and over until your brain shrinks and falls out of your ear.

If you don't want to limit it to pop songs, there's always Red Sovine's "Hello, I'm a Truck".

I like the song but the lyrics don't make much sense.

Rappin' Duke - John Wayne

So you think you're bad, with your rap
Well I'll tell ya pilgrim I started the crap
When you were in diapers and wetting the sheets
I was at the Ponderosa rapping to the beat

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

Sure I rustled some cattle and tended the sheep
But my main concern was rapping to the beat
I don't bother nobody I'm a real nice guy, kinda
laid back like a, dead fly

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

I'm talkin, here and now
Later for the cattle and rustlin the cow
If I had a chance to do a repeat
You can bet your sweet dippy I'd be rappin to the beat

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

Que pasa amigos? Not a *pasa* I see
Two hundred punks well what ya gonna do?
I got two six shooters that'll see me through
That's, twelve dead...
and a hundred and eighty-eight pallbearers

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

What I do on your grave won't pass for flowers either

Now Kurtis Blow, Run-D.M.C.
You haven't heard of rap, til ya heard it from me
I'm the baddest rapper in history
And there'll be no more, after me

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

Meanwhile, back at the ranch
Santa Barbera that is
Swimmin pools, and movie stars
Well the first thing ya know ol' Ron's the President
The kinfolk said, "Ron move away from there"
Said, "In The White House is where you wanna be"
So he loaded up the Lincoln and he moved to D.C.

Washington, that is
Politicians taking a sip
Foreign dignitaries taking a trip
High tax and plenty Cadillacs

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

Now ya see me in my movies, doin my thing
But deep in my heart, I've wanted to sing
"Wayyyy dowwwn, upon the swannnny riverrrrrr
Farrrr, farrr awayyy
Titwillow, titwillow, titwillow"
I don't think, that's your style
But I'll tell ya pilgrim, I'm versatile
Aretha Franklin, Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin let me rock ya let me rock ya Aretha Franklin
Let me rock ya Aretha Franklin that's all I wanna do
Aretha Franklinnnnnn

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

I'm feeelin the groove now pilgrim
Party, over here
Party, over there
There's nothin to it, the way we do it
Woop woop!
East coast, West coast
Texas

Every time I put on pants
I tell ya pilgrim I wanna dance
I put a quarter, in the juke'
Then I commence, to doin the Duke

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

It's pretty easy, if you can see
Just move your arms kinda freely
Do a pause, and take a step
And just make sure the beat is kept

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

I was at the Ponderosa rappin to the beat
Tryin to cool off from the desert heat
I discovered somethin, really neat
The Duke has moves, with his feet

Da haahh... da haahh
Da haahh... da haahh

I won plenty of ladies, with my charms
But they like me the most for the moves of my arms

Woahhh... woahhh

I'm gonna rap, in the East
Gonna rap, in the West
I'll show ya pilgrim, who's the best
Nothin to it, the way we do it
Skiddely-be-bop, we-bop, Scooby Doo
Guess what America we love you

Da hahhhh, da hahhhh, da hahhhh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh

Everybody

Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh
Da haahh, da haahh
Da ha-hahh ha-hahh haahh...
