ah, ic. i read the post wrong. navigation is even better than navigon.

Are you saying that the built in navigation in IOS 6 is better than Navigon? While its cool to finally have turn-by-turn navigation built in, it's not even in the same league as the a good dedicated GPS app like Navigon. Yes, I have both IOS 6 and Navigon.

The beta4 of iOS 6 turn by turn is not going to out map (meaning having more map data) than navigon. Navigon has downloadable offline maps and offers real time traffic reroutes, speed cameras, millions of POI, optional routes, road block re-route, the list goes on.

But what navigon lacks is the smoothness of turn-by-turn, the performance of re-routing speed, the graphics, the interface design those all do not compare to apple's turn-by-turn navigation. The biggest most important factor is that the apple turn-by-turn navigation is free.

I still would not give up my navigon yet but yesterday, i went on an 85 mile trip to a rural area and navigon actually failed me twice. WIth the turn-by-turn from apple, it actually took me to my destination accurately!

I am purchasing one tomorrow from Target. You get 45 days from Target which will cover the keynote. If a new one is announced that is worth the upgrade, I'l simply return the "old" one to Target.

I'm with you on this. I bought mine on July 25 from Best Buy and I'm seriously considering taking it back before the 30 day return poilicy has expired (even though that is before the keynote).
Then again if there is not a new one announced, I basically just wasted my time. But I guess it's better safe than sorry! This was my first post by the way.

ME ... I got a 3 ... YOU ... should wait until 2019 ... the iPad should have something to your liking by then ... OR NOT !

No I have no clue until I try the one in iOS6. Was just reiterating what the other poster said. Either way I'll still use Navigon when I don't have a data connection. Like when traveling to another country.

Don't wait to buy one. GET IT NOW! I just bought one less than a week ago, and I'm sorry I waited so long. I sold my white iPad 2 back in March, mainly because it was white, which distracts me. I was going to buy another PS3 instead of the iPad. I am glad I didn't.

get 5% off at Target with their Red Card

I bought a new one a few weeks ago to replace my first generation iPad that I had since the launch day. I really love the new one a lot, it is so much faster and the retina display is awesome.

If you have a Target Red Card you can get 5% off the price and they periodically offer Target Gift Cards with purchase. When I bought mine, I bought the 16GB WiFi and it came with a $25 Target gift card and by using my Red Card debit card got an additional $25 off, which comes to a combined total of $50.

Until Apple announces a new iPad there is no concrete evidence of what the next version may or may not have. If you want one now, get it now. If you wait for the next version, then the rumours will come out about the next one after that and you'll keep wondering. Get it now, enjoy it now. It will last several years.

I can't argue with you about free vs $80.00 or whatever Navigon costs now, but I totally disagree with your other points, especially the comments about graphics and interface design. The current implementation by Apple looks very "beta-ish" and unfinished.

I'm also looking to purchase an ipad 3 (specifically looking for a black 16GB, wi-fi only version) but am also concerned by the possible updates after the Sept. 12 keynote. I like the idea of buying an ipad 3 from somewhere with a return period extending beyond the keynote date, however I'm hoping to buy a refurbished ipad to save some money and haven't been able to find a reputable seller offering a refurbished (16GB, wi-fi etc.) ipad 3 with the return policy I'm looking for.

Has anyone come across somewhere selling a refurbished black, 16GB, wifi ipad 3 with a 30ish day return policy?
Thanks!

From the sounds of your statement, I don't think you have used beta4 extensively. The 3D buildings in vector already makes it better than navigon and I can sort of see how you think it's beta-ish because it's pretty baron when it comes to on screen POI icons, etc. However, I don't care for those things because navigon can be really clusterfxked with the icons on screen. Biggest thing is that with apple's navi, it is incredibly smooth - compared to navigon side by side, navigon is quite stuttery. The re-routing is extremely fast on apple's navi.

When you travel on your route, the screen will pan, tilt very smoothly - navigon does the same thing but it's ultra ugly when it does. Like I said, I am still using navigon since I can't use up all of my data for my iPad. The offlinemaps have apple beat, however.

If I am to recommend a 3rd party navigation, I wouldn't hesistate to recommend navigon - but when the final ios 6 unveils to the public, it's gonna be a huge dent in sales for any 3rd part navigation software.

I don't know what you consider "extensively" but I've used it several times. It works pretty well but I did have a problem when I was recently in the Napa area when it routed me up the wrong street. I ended up having to whip out my Galaxy S2 to get where I was going. I think it's an excellent first effort, but I still like a dedicated GPS app better. I don't really care if the screen is not as smooth. It's not like you can stare at it anyway while you're driving :D I also don't agree with you about the Navigon interface being "ugly".

It certainly is not even in the same league as navigation on the latest Android devices (I have the Nexus 7), but I still thing it's a good first effort and will only get better.
