Hi,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I received and installed the lcd. It was pretty easy to do.

The glossy screen is terrific. I ended up getting a discount on the lcd since there were a couple of pencil point size nicks in it. But for $150 for a glossy lcd that has perfect color, etc. I think it worked out okay.

So the total of the macbook pro came out to under $600. So the sale of the powermac, airport card, and lcd pretty much paid for the macbook pro. And I still have an extra hard drive and radeon 8500 video card for sale also. I think its been a pretty good trade off.

We're trying to save as much space as possible in our apartment so this definitely meets that. It will be my wife's to use for her music and things, and I'll still have my 12" powerbook.

So thanks to everyone who was involved and supportive in getting the macbook and then the lcd.

Thanks again!

Let me just say that you are the cheapest person I've ever heard of, and I love you for it. I too would of jumped at that and simply replaced the LCD screen. Not only did you get a great laptop, but you got the upgraded video card (comes with 128 mb standard) and upgraded HDD AND on top of that, more RAM! If you were to buy it retail now, it would cost you over $2200 + tax. Refurb, maybe $1700 including those upgrades.

On another note looking at your weird math, you've actually made a nice profit in your time of owning macs  I bow down to you sir! :D

Damn Skippy!!

Buying computers has always been strange to me. I bought one brand new once, and was just annoyed at how low and how quickly the resale value would drop when I tried to upgrade. So I figured getting decent used machines would be fine, and definitely cheaper. And if I ever was to sell it, I wouldn't lose much or would make a little profit. Can't explain it, but I just can't stand the feeling of paying full price for something that depreciates pretty quickly. It reminded me when I was in college, buying textbooks. I only bought textbooks my first semester, but when I tried to sell them back, the bookstore would give me something like $10 for an $80 book. Sure I may have gotten more outside, but I still lost a lot. I hated that feeling.

I've been fortunate with my deals, and more importantly that I have never had any problems with these machines. I enjoy taking things apart, so this little project was definitely fun too.

I know my perspective may seem strange, buts its worked for us so far!!

Thanks!
