it may be illegal to resell in 5 or 10 years.. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/your-right-to-resell-your-own-stuff-is-in-peril-2012-10-04/

Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons and the first-sale doctrine in copyright law is being challenged for any products made abroad.. So you would basically have to get permission from the copyright holder to sell your iphone. ..

That article is misleading. SCOTUS won't wipe away the entire first sale doctrine even if it fully affirms the lower court's decision. Also, this would apply to products that are made abroad and only sold abroad, and if then someone imports them and sells them as new domestically. This decision would not apply to used stuff (largely falling within the fair use doctrine), nor to all things made abroad (the first sale doctrine would still apply if it was first sold in the US).

Hold on, let me hop into my time machine to let you know what kind of "return on investment" you'll be getting in 5-10 years...brb

Say hello to Marty and Doc for me if you cross paths with them. Just look for the aluminum grey Delorean.

I still see people using the original iPhone, so this can't be too far fetched.

Whoa, really?! I haven't seen an original iPhone in use in at least two years -- maybe more. Imagine someone upgrading from the first-gen to the iPhone 5. I'd love to see the look on their face the first time they use LTE compared to the 2G network they've been on all this time.

If you were interested in investing in iPhone your best shot is now. Get a bunch and resale them now before supply meets demand.

Should I buy an iPhone 5, brand new in shrink wrap, and then sell it 5 or 10 years later? What kinds of ROI will I get?

Really? Sell it now! They're getting between $900-$1200 on ebay for unlocked versions.

First iPhone might be a collectors' item because it's the first of its kind. iPhone 5, however, is not.

Buy a bunch of them and flip them on ebay. Profit x2!!!
