Or should I chance it and walk into a store on Friday? Took me a couple weeks to get my Iphone 4 after launch.

It's completely up to you. If you pre-order, you will wait to receive. If you go to a store, you may not get one first try, but you will eventually.

You decide how much time and effort you can spend. (Personally, I would pre-order. I hate crowds).

At this point I'd wait and try the stores. Last year, I was able to walk into an Apple Store two weeks after the 4S launch and purchase one.

I'm having issues with my bill, I have to wait until the 21st and deal with the crowds. Thankfully though I have an AT&T store across the street from my job. My old 3G is giving me the blues.
