Hello

Do you guys think it's worth selling my 2.6 GHz, 8GB Ram, 512GB SSD Mid 2012 Retina MacBook Pro 15".

I bought my computer before the new MacBook prices were released so picked it up for $1375 BARGIN. But now, I'm think about upgrading after school ends. As I will be heading down to the states (California) (Currently in Canada), I see the MacBook Pro's are so much cheaper down there, I can pick up a brand new sealed one for the price of a used early 2013 MacBook Pro after exchange rate. Plus I'm thinking about getting a 1TB MacBook this time, since I only have 100GB left somehow.

Will I have problems getting AppleCare? Or warranty transfer to new owner?

Do you guys think it worth it?

Does anyone hate the force touch trackpad? I'm not a big fan of it. It feels to strange to me. I'm use to the deeper clicks, I think Apple fryer to be to fancy with this trackpad.

Here's a picture of my MacBook for sale at the time

If you guys saw my last thread, I sold my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010 for $550, not bad considering 624 battery cycles

If I do sell my mid 2012 retina MacBook Pro with these specs, what should I list it at, it will come Final Cut Pro studio, Microsoft office, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom 5, motion 5, Logic Pro x, compressor, and had the left fan replaced at the Apple Store for about $100, has no Apple Care or warranty, and no box.

What do you guys think?

I'm going to be completely upfront with you. I wouldn't sell your current model yet. From what i've seen the gt 650m outperforms the integrated Iris Pro graphics of the 1999 model. You'd be spending quite a bit of money on a machine that is not a significant performance upgrade. You're not going to get 1500 for the machine. On eBay the model is going for 11-1200. If it were me i'd wait for intel's new processors codenamed "Skylake" and hold onto your machine for a while longer. You'll be out quite a bit of money either way. That machine is still extremely fast with a quad core i7 8gb ram gt 650m and the flash storage makes all the difference. Also i'm just assuming here but i'd bet that there will be an update not long after skylake is released in August with a redesign. The machine you have is still an extremely capable machine and if that doesn't meet your needs than the new one's aren't significantly more powerful. Like I said, if I were you i'd hold out for Skylake and a redesign and get a cheap external drive if you fill up your PCie flash storage. Just looking out for what's better long term. Also the force touch trackpad I wasn't a fan of, but that's only because i'm not used to it yet. I'm used to the feedback of the trackpad. I wouldn't be concerned about this because you'd get used to it relatively quickly. It's a neat feature.

It has ghosting issues and a creaking hinge that is about to drive me up the wall.

I saw 2 MacBooks with the same specs for $1800, and $2000 but have AppleCare, so I would list it at 1700 area.

I replaced my first retina display which had image retention, but colors were pretty uniform and accurate. Then I went to my local AASP and asked for a display replacement 3 times. None had image retention, but colors weren't uniform. There isn't perfection when you suffer from OCD.

You are not getting 1500 for your model. Late 2013 and mid 2014 models with the GT750M go for 1500-1600.
Your model sells for 1200 tops, Applecare or not.
I am talking about the US market. I don't know about the Canadian market.

LOL I'm just so OCD about things

Even $1200 would be a heavy lift - with the issues you describe I'd say $900-1000 is more realistic. Again, US - no idea what Canadian pricing would be.

I think the prices here are a lot higher in Canada, higher demand maybe? a while back there was a late 2013, with a broken keyboard backlight for $1500, CRAZY.

Are you aware that even though Canada and the US both use the $ sign, they actually have different currencies, and CAD is tanking right now? And also even when CAD and USD are on par, :apple:'s prices are higher up here.

I was going to sell my 2012 rMB earlier this year and the offers that were trickling in were just over 1,000. I don't think now with newer models out depressing the price further you could get 1,200.

Would it? I wouldn't pay $900 for a laptop that had screen and hinge problems. Add the cost of repairing both and you be better off buying a refurb or at least a used one without those issues.

Agreed.

I have the same 2012 model, but with 2.7GHZ cpu and 16gb RAM. I hope to get 1300 when I sell it early 2016, WITH APPLECARE for 6 months. I bet you wouldn't get higher than 1100.

Not to mention you have issues with yours, mine is perfect. No hinge issue and NO GHOSTING lol. Plus a brand new screen from apple 3 months ago.

Here in Canada a same spec Macbook Pro sold for $1750 on kijii, not sure about the final price but still

I'm not familiar with kijii but it seems many folks here have offered their opinion on what to expect. While it sold, you point out that you have no idea what the actual sale price ended up being.
