Hi all,
I want to upgrade my sawtooth but I want to know if its worth the cash. I want it to run WoW(I run it on my iB but I want my sawtooth to run it better), ableton live and maybe some iMovie. What I need to know is what upgrades would you suggest I get(CPU, Video card etc) I dont want to spend more then 300USD. Basically I would like this computer to be a tad more powerfull then my ibook then around late 2006 early 2007 I will be a last gen G5

A brand new Mini will still outperform this machine in so many ways, i wouldnt bother with the upgrades unless you just want to. $ 300 aint going to make much performance difference in that machine. Sorry. I would sell it and get a Mini.

Minis arent an option becasue they only have 1 ramslot, 32mb vram and 1 HD bay.

But they are going to 64 mb video,a faster drive, faster cpu if you can call it that and can hold a gig of Ram. You are frozen with a 100 mhz bus so even the best videocard in that machine and the fastest G4 in that machine still puts you short of what you can get from say a Mini or Emac. You could spend $600 on that machine and still be way behind in performance vs a Mini. :( cost vs performance increase isnt going to be pretty.

Well i would start looking for a decent Geforce3 or 9000 and perhaps a 1.0 or 1.25 G4 upgrade. Reason i say this is because i have an upgraded Quicksilver 1.4 and the new mini pretty much matches it in performance. If i would have waited i could have bought a mini with the $$$ i put into that quicksilver and still saved money.
