Worth the upgrade?

I have a last generation 12" PowerBook G4 with 768MB of RAM. I was wondering if it whould be worth it it max out the RAM (I believe the maximum is 1.2GB), or whould I just be wasting my money.

depends on how you use the machine. How many pageouts you get in a certain amount of time and other things.

However it would likely be beneficial to get more RAM

I use PhotoShop Elements, Final Cut Studio, iWeb, iPhoto, and Microsoft Office mostly. I also use Carrara 5 (3d animation), GarageBand, and Xcode occasionally.

Based on the programs you use, I think it would be a good idea to max out your machine, you'd see a speed boost for sure. That said, are you thinking about moving to an Intel machine anytime soon? It might not be worth buying more RAM just to get a new machine six months down the line.

Well, the truth is, I whould LOVE to get an Intel Mac (15" MacBook Pro, to be precise), but I just don't have the money right now, plus my mom's gonna buy me a new laptop when I get to college, so I just gotta get this baby to last until then. (Prays that someone finds a way to get an Intel processor into a 12" PowerBook)
