I'm on a 5 year upgrade cycle. Loved my upgrade from iPhone 7 to iPhone 12. Still enjoying it. However given the 5 year cycle is fast approaching I wanted to seek feedback on upgrading to the upcoming iPhone 17 and any "trim" (Pro/Max) suggestions. Thanks!

I’m figuring on a 17-series to replace my 12 Pro. I might move up to the 17 Pro Max.
I'm planning on the opposite: from a 12 Pro Max to a 17 Pro. The increased size of the recent Pro models should make the transition to a smaller phone less noticeable.

I would agree. I went from a 15 Plus to a 16 Pro and the screen really didn't seem all that much smaller. Very easy to get used to.

I upgraded from a 13 pro to a 16 pro and don't really think it was worth it. My main reason was getting a fresh battery without to much hassle.
A 12 pro to 17 pro is a bigger jump and prob worth it, if you are using much cellular data on 5G it might definitely be worth it.

I’d consider how important the camera features and quality are to you. I’ve read the thin model may have reduced camera capabilities.

What's the difference with the cellular data from the 12 to the 17?

Its much likely it will have a much more efficient cellular chipset.
If we look at the iPhone 16 pro that runs Qualcomm x71 its a big upgrade in comparison to the x55 that the 12 pro has. Improved power efficiency and faster speeds are prob what most will notice.

Not sure what chipset this device will have, but i'm guessing it will be the Qualcomm X75 or Apples own chipset. It its the latter i'd guess it will be the C2 that will be on par with the x71 or x75.

You would probably be quite happy.
Getting a higher quality display with higher refresh rate, better battery life, better camera, faster performance, USB-C, other benefits of the newer chip, upgraded build materials etc…

You are on a better upgrade cycle than most of us who are on shorter ones, you will see a lot of benefits, IMO.

Possibly changing my mind, rumors say a foldable iPhone may come along next year so I might stick with my 12 Pro another year. AppleCare+ just replaced the 12 Pro due to a slight crushing accident 😬 so battery is now at 100%; maybe it’s time for a Watch Ultra 3 instead 🤔

You should buy an iPhone 16 Pro. This phone has good features, and it looks fabulous as well. Also, if you're not in a hurry, then wait for the iPhone 17.

Think it will be good to upgrade from a 12 Pro model. I upgraded from a 12 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max and was very happy.

With the 17 Pro Max, there should be significant improvements to the camera when compared to the 12 Pro. The display itself will be better as the 120Hz is lacking on the 12 Pro. I personally like the dynamic island which the 12 Pro is lacking.

Overall I think it will be great to upgrade to a 17 Pro/Pro Max from a 12 (Pro or any other model).

You shouldn't have a time based upgrade cycle, but one based on basic needs. Additionaly, I would say don't update on luxury or wish based emotions.

My take on it at the moment with an iPhone 11 - no, it's not worthwhile. 90% of my needs are still perfectly served. This "number" has to drop below 50% at minimum to consider upgrading it.

You have a responsibility to not waste ressources, by any means. This is not fun anymore, the world has changed.

If the rumors are true about the 17Pro having 12gb of RAM it seems worth it to wait for it if you can. I got a 16Pro but I don't keep my phones for 5 years and I keep ai disabled.

The 17 is coming out in 2 months might as well wait. Also the Earth will thank you for holding onto your electronics for longer.

Looking forward to this I've seen some pretty crazy things happen to the radio where it will just drop the service and fail to connect again until you airplane mode then turn it back off.
