I have the original apple watch, is there any reason I would need to upgrade to a newer version?

Well…for starters, it‘s not receiving updates since quite some time already. But, it still should work fine… so it’s up to you

Many reasons, including display size, speed, features, battery age, etc.
You probably need to be more specific about your needs, how you use the watch, features of interest, how much you are prepared to spend, etc., to get some useful feedback here.

One thought is just order one and try it out for 14 days

Just for the fast processor, display size and the battery life, it’s worth it. I upgraded from a S0 to S5 and the difference is night and day. I am using way more the Watch on S5 than the original Apple watch

When your original Apple Watch dies, you will need to upgrade anyways if you want to continue using it.

Apple Watch series 0 has received no software updates for a long long time, and unless you have an old iPhone, it wont even connect anymore. So just take this into account.

What is an "old" iPhone? Because I had a Series 0 until last year and I've used it with my iPhone X with no issues.

I still use a Series 0 with an iPhone X.
Idk, but iPhone X is relatively old compared with iPhone 12, and I’m not sure if iPhone 12 can be used to pair Apple Watch series 0. Hope you get what I’m talking about here and good for iPhone X still supporting the pairing with Apple Watch series 0. Dunno which iOS you’re running.

That’s interesting. Doesn’t seem that apple kills off watchOS support in newer version of iOS smh, just like iTunes 12.6.5 support for M1 iPad.
It wouldn't surprise me though if it did abruptly get cut off.

As someone who went from series 0 to series 1 only because of a warranty issue, and then held out til series 5 about 16 months ago, I say hell yes. Many new features and the speed alone is reason to take the plunge.

I went from a Series 1 to a 6 because I got a new 6 on sale for $279. Yeah, it was worth it. At $400? Probably not. I do love the hand washing thing and watchOS 7 that tweaked activities to where I do get some credit for being pokey. I love the new watch screens where i can put 8 complications on the screen. Sooo much snappier. I can actually delete texts w/o it taking forever. And the timer is now fast enough to keep up with my taps to start. Weather apps now don’t take 10-20 seconds to update …

I did get $50 for my Series 1 on Craigslist so my actual cost was $230 ;)

This would be a huge upgrade for you if you decided to go for it! A lot of new features have been added since your current model’s release. I’d say it’s worth it!

The S0 definitely is worth upgrading to any watch model. For me the sweet spot has been the reliable S3. Fast enough not to bother me with a slow UX, enough features and classy SS design to not urge me to upgrade it any further. I'm awaiting to see what the new S7 design will bring however.

It's worth it for performance and larger screen.
I went from series 3 to series 6 It's a lot faster the scrolling is noticeably smoother
a larger screen gives you more options to faces and complications making the watch more useful.

Absolutely yes. I had Series 2 and upgraded to Series 5 and the difference is huge. The latest OS for Series 2 really slowed down the performance of the watch but even with the original OS it was significantly slower than the Series 5. There is far more functionality and I use my Apple Watch Series 5 way more now. Upgrading from Series 0 to 7 will massive

I am rocking a series 0 with iPhone 12 Pro. No problems at all except for the fact that the watch is very slow .

All depends what you use the current watch for. If the newer features are what you will need then go for it.

Oh my goodness, without a shadow of doubt. I just upgraded two weeks ago. I had the original , absolutely hated it and prefered a Fitbit Versa.
The Apple Watch is so different now in terms of speed and reliability. I recommend it . I got the SE

Depends what you’re using it for if it’s just something to tell time then no. If you’re using it for fitness and Apple Pay then for sure. I went from a 2 to a 4 and the difference was night and day. Going to order a 7 this week
