Got MBP in 2009, no warranty. Charger only works about 60% of the time now. Could I get a replacement for free?

There are some extremely lenient geniuses out there, but this would be a stretch even for them. I would say your chances are less than 10%. You can find them used on eBay for $30.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

    No. Why would they?

If people keep trying to take advantage of them for free replacements years out of warranty, they are going to tighten up and ruin it for everyone. /rant

It's worth a shot. They've done much bigger replacements for free with out of warranty items.

Before you resort to that (your chances aren't great on a free replacement), try resetting the SMC and troubleshooting the MagSafe adapter. Instructions for both in the link below, under CHARGING. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:
