I got my phone screen repaired by a guy about 2 months ago.I had the phone since March. The button just stopped working completely so would apple give me a free phone?
The guy told me it would void my warranty if he repaired my phone, but do you hink they'd just give me a phone right on the spot once they see the button isn't functional? Would they need to open up the phone?

Does the guy who repaired you screen work for Apple? If not then I think you could be out of luck. While in warranty always use Apple certified repairs.

No, he wasn't, but it was working fine after he repaired it and that was 2 months ago. It just stopped working today.

If Apple do open and discover that some of the stickers inside have been tampered with then you will be out of luck. As Applejuiced says, its worth a try.

But do you think they would open up the phone?
Or just hand me a new one?
And what if I play dumb with the repair and say he claimed to work for apple?

There is always a chance they might. When my iPhone was replaced they didn't, however they did check all the water sensors. IMO ignorance would not be an excuse.
