Not that this is in any way scientific but so far only 6 people going for the new 21" and 36 going other routes. Assuming everyone was really a potential buyer (a big assumption, I know), that's pretty striking.

I was definitely in the market, but I will wait for Skylake and a better GPU to drive all those retina pixels. And the 5400rpm base drive is just nuts.

I have been waiting for a year since I started getting some contracts to work on at home. I will go the PC route instead now. I think the next update will be just what I'm looking for but I'm on borrowed time working on an early 2008 iMac with a failing screen and can't wait any longer.

I assumed the 21 would have a graphics card, so it is very dissapointing. I was confident of being able to sneak a 21 on flights, no chance with the 27. Instead I will have to buy a short term 27 for greater cost and sell when move, which is probably when Apple will upgrade the 21. At least I won't be worrying if I can get a 21 on a flight, plus the 27 is big enough to double as a TV for 4K videos.

My thoughts as well. I'd add: Since the RAM is soldered, I'd want to do the 16 gb. 8 is fine for me today, but i don't know if it would be for the several years I'd want this iMac to last. And the 5400rpm drive is a definite no-go, as is the fusion drive with only 24 gb of flash. So 256 ssd is the floor, IMO, and the 256 ssd on my current laptop is already feeling cramped.

All of which means spending $1900 for what I'd consider to be a baseline 21" retina. And even then, it's hamstrung by the iGPU.

All in all, too much money for not enough computer. A pity, since I'd looked forward to this for a long time now.

I thought the prices were crazy but looking at other all in ones they are not too far off. Just too gimped and I would need to upgrade a lot. I was on the fence but will stick with my old iMac until there is a compelling upgrade. I even thought about getting a PC since on the desktop all I really am tied to was iPhoto and thats gone. Cannot believe how cheap very powerful towers are. Had not looked in a long time.
