What's described is within both the letter and spirit of Apple's return policy.

What's questionable? People have been gaming Apple's recent Giveback trade-in promotion by buying multiple used/refurb iPhones from vendors, and then trading them in for more value than they paid, purchasing new Apple product (not the XR/XS as intended), and then even subsequently returning those products for credit back to their credit cards.

Apple's lax enforcement of the iPhone purchase requirement, and issuance of credit in the form of straight compensation has allowed it to occur, so the company does have to bear that burden, but it is a good example of abuse that eventually works against the consumer, as retailers impose more conditions, or are discouraged from offering future promotions.

Return policies are not legally compulsory in many jurisdictions. They are privileges resulting from the competitive retail environment, and retailers that offer especially generous terms often get taken advantage of.

Abuse of Costco's generous return policy lead to the imposition of the 90-day period on electronics, as one example. Target now has a 15-day period on electronics, and Best Buy has reduced theirs to 14-days, except for their loyalty club members.

Now only $722 billion. See what you did? :)
[doublepost=1547331510][/doublepost]Apple got too much money out of me last year (Mac Mini, AND an iPad, AND a watch). So upgrading my X to an Xs is not the best use of my money. The eSIM would be nice (I have a plan on both a Verizon MVNO and ATT Prepaid), but I just keep the backup plan on my 7+. But not enough to upgrade for. If I wanted to move to T-Mobile, then an upgrade would be nice, but the Xr "may" be good enough.

The sad thing is that my Mini 4 was acting weird, so I bought the 10.5" pro. Then after a full reset and setup as new, the problem went away. So the only hardware purchase I plan to make this year is possibly a battery replacement.
Are you planning to run two contract (ATT and Verizon) simultaneously on the phone? Is this possible with the XR?

The policy is designed exactly for people like you. I.e. people who are on the fence and wouldn’t buy the phones if the policy was not there.

It’s kind of “we are so certain you will love our product that we let you try it for 14 days for free”

Lol, apple doesn't seem to think it's immoral to charge their customers higher margins why should you?

The Xr does allow 2 services at the same time. Though only 1 can be a CDMA based service like Verizon or Sprint. Right now I have no plans, since I carry my X with my primary service, and only take the backup phone when I travel.

Thank you! That makes me feel really good.

I just feel like Apple provides a return policy as a priviledge to the customer and I only want to use it if I absolutely must. If I can avoid it that’s better because I know they probably lose money and I wouldn’t want that.

If I absolutely knew I was upgrading I wouldn’t think twice. Like if I had my old 6S and was like this is the year, I would walk in and just get it.

The only other time I would definitely return or exchange is if there was a problem like a defect or something that was really bothering me or affected the device.
Wow don't overthink this. If you like it, keep it, if not then they're not going to sweat over your one, legitimate return. Unfortunately none of us are that important!

Except, The difference being, the customer has the choice of what they choose to purchase from Apple or not. A return policy versus what Apple charges are two things are not mutually exclusive.
