Judging by a lot of comments in general from the main thread in the news forum about now headphone jack being heavily rumored with Bluetooth earbuds/ adapter needed

Who here would be tempted to move away from the iPhone in the short term? Maybe get the s7/s7 edge maybe?

How is this rumour affecting your thought on if a change is needed?

Probably - I do have Bluetooth headset but it's annoying to have to charge it. Give me a BT battery that lasts for a month and I might consider it

Thats not a BT issue as much as just battery tech full stop. You can only put a battery so big inside a set of bluetooth headphones without them being to big to be worthwhile hence the reduced battery life.

For all the talk about mobile phones not being that innovative anymore they basically done all the worthwhile features and the next leap in all of this will probably be when someone cracks the next gen of battery\power tech for phones, earphones etc to reduce the need for charging as often or them being powered a different way.

There are far too many benefits with the iPhone to be put off by the lack of something I hardly ever use. I've used Android extensively (I spent 2 years on it during the 5/5s era and still have an android tablet now) and while it's a great O/S I simply prefer iOS.
If I ever do go back to an Android phone, it will be a nexus device - Samsung are a nightmare for os updates (I have had several of their phones)

I would not buy an iPhone without a headphone jack. I quite like my existing headphones and other sound devices, and a dongle would be a nuisance compromising the extreme portability that is fundamental to a smart phone. If the iPhone 7 is 3.5mm free, I would have to seriously consider whether I see how long my iPhone 5 will last, or if I pick up an iPhone 6S and then see how long that lasts. I have an ecosystem of iOS/Mac apps that I rely on quite heavily, but Apple's design objectives seem to be moving them further and further from my hardware interests. At least I can build a hackintosh for my next desktop.

It would make things awkward for me but I don't think it's enough of a reason to make me ditch the iPhone. I would have to just use it with the headphones that come in the box as I've no intention of rewarding Apple and buying licensed Lightning accessories.

I'll stick to my iPod classic if I want to listen to music using higher quality headphones away from home.

Yeah most likely me as well

Obviously Apple will give us earbuds with Bluetooth to make it easy to use so will need to make sure I don't lose them. iMessage and how everything syncs with my other devices will still make it impossible to jump ship again.

Hopefully all the other features they add to this will make people not worry too much about the headphone jack

Move to android because of this? You got to be kidding. Have not used this head phone jack in years. Get rid of the dinosaur.

People here are passing it off as "something they barely ever use".

Meanwhile there's me, who barely ever uses the phone part. Maybe the iPhone 7 will convince me to finally splurge on a 5G Classic.

I'm an iOS developer so I don't have much choice at the moment and I'm really satisfied with my 6s so even if I had a different job I'd stick with Apple.
I think I'll keep my 6s until 2017 and by then, if they ditch the 3.5 jack this year, the market will be full of lighting->3.5 converters.
I don't like having to deal with bluetooth headphones so I'd rather use an adapter. Wireless headsets are handy, but they are another appliance to keep charged so if the adapter is really tiny is the best solution

I don't want to use an adapter or have another device to charge. So I'd stick with my current phone until it dies, and then see what happens. If when it dies Apple hasn't figured things out and put the headphone jack back in but android phones still have it I'll switch. If nobody has it I'll look seriously at purchasing a used iPhone that still has it.

I don't think it would force me to leave the iPhone, i tried that once with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and i learned from my mistake, i hated it and Touchwiz was a nightmare! i soon went back to the iPhone and brought a 5S when it came out.

As much as I grouse about it, the fact remains, I'll most likely stick with the platform. iOS and the iPhone still offers too much for my usage habits and fits my needs the best to leave for Android at this stage.

You've neglected a poll choice. Your thread title asks if it bothers me: yes, it does, but not enough to lose the quality of hardware, user experience, and customer service that Apple and its products deliver.

Well that's included in answer 2, meaning it doesn't bother you enough not to upgrade.

I don't want to debate semantics here so as not to derail your thread, but that's not what answer 2 says, as it does bother me, just not past the "tipping point."
It may not say it but it applies if you aren't bothered by it enough not to upgrade but I guess polls will never have enough answers for everybody.

I'm upgrading to the 5se - or whatever it's going to be called - that is due out in a few weeks..
By all accounts it's retaining the headphone socket. (perhaps the final iphone to do so)

I want an S7 even without news of headphone jack/no headphone jack.

I have no experience with android, though. And iMessage and FaceTime are really awesome to have at a button push.

All of the people in this thread and any other thread claiming they will not get an iPhone because of something as trivial as a missing headphone jack will be first in line when the 7 drops....you just watch. If you aren't using a Bluetooth device with your phone in 2016, you need to just revert back to a flip phone and a Sony Walkman anyway...

You're right. Since my 2007 4Runner is in perfect working condition but doesn't have Bluetooth, I should absolutely get a Walkman or get a new car. Fantastic logic.

So you obviously have a 3.5mm jack in your truck... You can still have Bluetooth with a $10 adapter from eBay. Try again...
