Would the higher res screen on the base 15'' affect GPU performance?

Based on the Macworld benchmarks and other benchmarks floating around, the GPU in the new base 15'' model is good but not fantastic.

I'm not saying it's a bad GPU but with it's meager 256MB's of dedicated dedicated video memory would the task of pushing the extra pixels in the higher-res model affect performance that much?

It's going to cause additional strain for gaming, but if that's your task then you should look toward a different machine anyways.

Would only matter during gaming at a higher resolution, but otherwise, meh.

To reiterate two previous comments, you'll only notice it from gaming. I love higher resolution though and since my two main games I'll be playing are SC2 and WoW, I don't mind having some settings turned down a tad to get the full resolution. Plus non-native res IMO always looks a tad blurry if full screened.
