Would things like RAM compression continue to live on in newer versions of OSX or would Apple remove them?

Although there have been a few instances of removing features from one OS X version to the next, the general rule is to keep newly introduced technologies and add to them in subsequent releases. I doubt you'll see RAM compression removed in future releases, unless it's replaced by whatever the "next step" in RAM management turns out to be.
