Lmao.

I want an 11/12/13 MBP like some other people. I'm not too particular about the size as long as it has an optical drive and is smaller than the 15". I could see Apple doing an 11.1" widescreen, but as for when.. who knows?

Another thing, and this relates to the 11" screen...

Apple will only build laptops if they are complete, with all the offerings of a full-size laptop. Optical drive, full size keyboard, large array of ports...they'll never build something that they need to cripple in order to make.

I don't think the existence of the 13.3" MB rules out a smaller MBP. After all, the old 12" and 14" iBooks co-existed peacefully with the PowerBooks.
Yeah, but that was when there was a BIG difference between the consumer laptop and the pro line. Now, really, there's not much. GPU and a few bells and whistles, and that's about it.

Before, the performance speeds didn't compare, the GPU's couldn't compare (and you couldn't connect your iBook to a nice big external monitor), it was widescreen vs. square, quite thick vs. pretty thin.. on and on and on. Before, it made sense to have a small pro line, because many wanted the power of the PB but the mobility of the iBook. Now? Please. The two are so similar that I think the market for a MB-sized MBP just couldn't justify the extra line.

I would like the professional power of the MacBook Pro in a small form factor. I don't think I am alone on this either by evidence of the poll. I had a 12" Powerbook for quite some time, and when the MB came out, I was disappointed in the graphics. They say it doesn't make a difference, but I am pushing my presentations down a 50' cable and you can see the signal degregation over the 128MB VRAM.

So, give me all the power of a MBP in 12" or a 13.3" design, and I am all over that baby.

I miss my 12" PowerBook; I had it since November 2004 and it recently died on me. Apple, after three repairs, replaced it with a brand new 15" MacBook Pro, which I am desperately trying to sell so that I can get a MacBook (I love the size).

Ah, if only they made a small MacBook Pro... :(

...Which is why I want something with about the same dimensions of a DVD case. Except for thickness.

There will never be a 12" MacBook Pro. They completed the laptop line, so don't expect any new models.

Yeah. They completed the MacBook family. So there will never be any new models... ever. Ever again. No new notebooks from Apple. Ever.

Sony has a little 11" laptop with an 80GB HD and optical drive, I don't know how many ports it has but I'm sure it has enough (which is subjective to each user, I suppose). Sony's laptop isn't without problems (mostly heat issues) but perhaps Apple could learn from that and make a better one? Who knows.

eh i don't know, now that i have my imac i would love smaller laptop then my 15 so i would have to compare the two

Wasn't the 12" PowerBook sort of a bastard model?

Even though it had the PowerBook name, it never had all of the features of the bigger PowerBooks, and some of the components (i.e. video) it had weren't much better than the iBook (from what I recall reading "Should I buy an iBook or a 12" PB??" threads). Seems like the general forum consensus back then was the 12" PB wasn't worth the extra money.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple brought it back again, but only if it was a minor reworking of the current MBPs, not an entire redesign. An entire redesign would be a lot of R&D for a niche market, IMO.

The 12" PB is a little crippled when it comes to a few features, but only because of it's miniscule footprint. It lacks a PCMCIA slot, which most people never need. It lacks a really powerful video card, but it does have discrete video that not only runs most apps really well, it does it spanning to an external 1920x1200 display. I can come back to my place and plug in my 320gb external, keyboard, mouse, and 24" display and have a better setup than many desktops all while maintaining the professional look and feel, tiny footprint, and light weight of the precision machined 12" Powerbook.

I would kill for a 12" MBP.

How can you say that with confidence? Nobody knows what apple will come out with.

No for 2 reasons. (1) my iMac is my main machine and would therefore rather spend more on my desktop solution & (2) my portable is used primarily for research (internet) and MS office and therefore cannot benefit from any extra "pro" features (asthetics aside)

Absolutely, i just hope WHEN Apple releases one, they dont cripple it. If they dont, it'll sell like hot cake. I was just lugging my 15" MBP the other day and noticed that the mo-fo gets heavy...quickly and started envying those lugging the Thinkpad X60s

Yes, I'd buy it as long as it has dedicated graphics and DVI. If it didn't, I'd prefer the MB. I'd love something ultra-portable as long as it could still drive my ACD when I'm at my desk.
