I'm stuck in somewhat of the same situation. I own an iBook G4, I want to get a macbook but money is kinda an issue right now for me. My parents say "if you can pay for it, you can get it." Unfortunately, I can't. $600, yeah as most say "it's a bit steep". agreed. You should go with the macbook, you're going to want it in the future.

I just sold my gf ibook 14" with very similar specs for over 650 bucks about a month ago.

600 bucks for that (with the software) isn't that bad of a deal for someone.

I own a G4 12" iBook - 800mhz with 640mg RAM, an eMac 1.25mhz G4 with 1gb RAM and a new 17" MacBook Pro with 2gb.

I wouldnt' pay over $400 for the iBook - the eMac is way more useable than the iBook for most things, but i'd rather have the CD MacBook over the eMac even.

The educational versions of the software are probably still not legal to transfer to you - they normally are only "legal" for the buyer. You might check that....

OK, crisis at home...

I'm personally kinda fond of the 1.33 (see sig line)...but wanted to mention "don't forget battery health!" Batteries are pricey, and everybody lies about how long the battery will run the computer. Figure another $65 or so....
