FWIW, B&H Photo shows the 16gb Mini with 256, 512, 1tb and 2tb SSD in stock and ready to ship. But these all have gigabit ethernet, the 10gb ethernet models are all shown as special order.

That may have been a better way to go as they appear to do what I wish Apple did. I had a look at the site and they indicate that one-day delivery is possible. I just prefer to buy Macs at The Apple Store (the physical one or the Online Store); but I'll keep B&H in mind for future purchases. It would have been nice to have it last week when I gave up my MacBook Pro.

Have been buying pro video, photo, audio and computer gear from B&H since 2001. They are terrific and often have the best prices. Visit their store in NYC sometime if you can, there really isn't any other place like it. And you can walk out the door with any of these in-stock models right away. I have a friend from the EU that always goes when she visits and brings a long shopping list for her friends.

Only thing is, be sure to read their return/exchange policy carefully, it used to be the case that you couldn't return computers after they were opened, not sure if that is still true. But perhaps that policy is one reason their prices are low?

NYC is a bit far from me. My state doesn't have sales taxes so people come her from other states and even other countries to shop here.

Their prices for the Mac Mini I wanted was the same as that of The Apple Store. The other reason I buy from The Apple Store is that I can drive there and return it. There's an Apple Store in the city to the north and another Apple Store in the city to the south near where we normally shop. There's a third Apple Store about 30 minutes away.

Not at all. In fact, I regretted not buying an iMac as soon as I got it hooked up, because I then realized how awful my old stuff is.

that would be good to know. Are the M1s cool even with external monitors? My 2014 MPB gets toasty with an external monitor connected
M1 Mac Mini thats been a workhorse for a few months. Rarely feels anything but room temperature. Articles bare that out as well.

I'm somewhat surprised that these problems still exist.

The 27 inch iMacs may be slower but they're still reliable from everything that I've heard.
Why suprised? Almost every generation of Mac Mini has had some form of connectivity issues. It just isn't a wide enough issue for Apple to spend the time and money sorting the issues.

Yes, I would buy one again, but only if it comes with a really beefy GPU that can last me years, or we get eGPU support for AS Macs, along with proper driver support.

We have a 2018 Mini and it's been fine as far as connectivity goes. We are wired for everything though - CAT5 Ethernet, wired mouse, keyboard, speakers, microphone. My 2020 Mini arrives by Thursday and it will be the same way.

I have a 2018 Mini i7/32GB/1TB. It’s my first mini. I’ve had iMacs since the first one in 1998.
I have it attached to a 32” 4K monitor. It’s fine for a normal use desktop, but when I have to edit a lot of raw photos, it chokes. I got an eGPU to use in those situations, but had a number of issues that made me stop using it. So, back to using the internal gpu.

I’m tempted by the new M1 machines, it seems like the GPU cores are much better than the old intel one.
As for getting another mini, I don’t know at the moment. I’ll be fine with what I have for a while… and then see what the next gen models are going to offer.

Been a Mac Mini owner since 2005, and would buy one again, but....... Recently moved back to my home country, in a situation where I no longer need the occasional transportability of the Mini.

Wonderful display and hassle free set up make the M1 iMac the way of the future for me. Sure, the new iMac lacks the connectivity of the Mini, but nothing a hub can't fix.
