Think it's a bad idea to get a mini right now? The buyers guide says "buy only if you need..approaching the end of a cycle" I guess I could wait a bit longer.

I would have to get the cheaper Mini, im on a budget, but that coro solo chip seems pretty poor, looking at macworld articles and tests, it hardly seems better than the 1.5ghz G4. What do you think will happen to the core solo mini at the next upgrade? Think it will get a low end dual core chip? 1.6ghz maybe and the current 1.6 move up to a 1.8?

I think im going to wait for the next upgrade cycle.. it cant be too far off.

Everytime you buy something there will always be an "update" around the corner. If you have the time to wait, then wait.

I know that... but its not like i'd be buying it right after an update... the current mini has been out for ages and the buyers guide doesn't reccomend getting one.

I was just asking what other people would do and what the next mini might have in terms of specs.

Perhaps after the update they'll lower the prices on refurb mini Core Duos....

I was gonna get a mac mini for my first mac, but went with a cheap 2nd hand Powermac Dual 450 instead, which I'll add a spare 30GB HD into... :)

Should be here at the end of the working week... goddamn tardy ebay senders.

I wouldnt get the solo mini, not worth it, which is probably why it got a price cut. I'd wait for something better. Where are these 1.5ghz solo chips coming from, I thought they started at 1.66?

The current Mac mini solo is a great unit. I have set up three for friends and family. The dual cores do get a lot of press. So when I set up the first one I was a little skeptical as well. It is a fast little machine for the $. It will blow away G4 mini's. It does have the option to change out your processor later. So you can buy today the lower price one and upgrade the processor when you need more. The inegrated graphics takes a lot of heat from everyone, but I have run HD Quicktime clips on solo Mini's and was extremely impressed in how well it handled HD video. Do get it with at least 1GB memory though.
