Do you trust brand over product???

Genuine user reviews are very helpful. Yes reviews do affect my decision power if the rating is bad.

Depends on a few things...

1. How many bad reviews
2. How recent are the bad reviews
3. How much is the item in question

I think it would depend on what the bad reviews included. If it's about the functionality or hardware being not up to par, I'd skip it. However if it's because of compatibility or other issues that would not directly apply to me I'd consider giving it a shot.

Fakespot is great for this. Anything I get on Amazon gets run through this website. If it fails, I ain’t getting it!

Personally, I will read reviews, but some of it depends on what is being complained about and the company behind the product. I review a lot of products and noticed that a lot of tech products are just user error or something going on with an individual's wifi.

That being said, if every review is saying something broke or mentioning how a part is faulty, I would be more likely to skip the product. On Amazon, I will typically peak at the user's other reviews to see if there is a trend of bad reviews.

A very notable example is the Airport Express and Airplay units from third parties. I read so many bad reviews (pro and consumer) I can't even count them all. I have used Airplay since Airtunes and have multiple third party streamers and have rarely ever had any issues. Same with DLNA/UPNP.

Maybe.

There are people who hate anything. You could probably find 17 year old boys who hate sex on the internet, with a little searching. People who hate can be very vocal. Watch Sony camera fanboys shred products with features/issues they defend on Sony products, for example.

You have to read reviews with a critical eye. If everyone is complaining that the headphones are too heavy, but you are more interested in their extended battery life, well batteries add weight. If people say they are too small, but you have small ears, then maybe that's a match.

On the other hand, if they break all the time, there may be a real issue. I don't generally trust BRAND over product reviews, but I do not trust product reviews alone, either.

Apple, Nikon, and LG have earned a bit of goodwill from me by releasing products that just keep on working the way I want them to for as long as I care to use them. I am less kind to Sony, Chrysler, and Samsung for their less sterling track records.
