That restocking fee is too high. Go buy the refurbished Mac directly from Apple. I bought a refurbished 2015 13" retina MacBook Pro 256GB SSD directly from Apple for $1269 and I had a 14 day return, no restocking fee. The computer looks identical, as in condition, to the new 2015 13" retina MacBook Pro 256GB SSD I bought 3 weeks earlier.

I think anyone who is going to buy a Apple computer from BestBuy should understand what their return policy is beforehand. I certainly would.

A restocking fee on the return of a new computer that has been opened? Even Apple gives a 14 day return, no restocking fee, and I can open and use the computer during that period of time. Although, I have never done that with the exception of upgrading within the 14 day period.

As posted above, from very recent experience, Best Buy does not charge a restocking fee on new Apple laptops that have been opened, powered up and used by the purchaser.

Thanks for the update.

Good to know.

Just for clarity, I'm not casting any stones at anyone. I've had the experience of googling for various policies and getting stale pages. It seems that leaving stale pages up, without links, is common. That's only harmless if you assume that no one ever uses a search engine to try to cut through the endless clutter and link-trees on corporate web sites. My most recent very bad experience was trying to figure out PayPal's policies but it happens with lots of businesses' web sites.

Aside from refurbished also look into open box. I have purchased an open box rMBP and iPad Mini from Best Buy before and nothing was wrong with them. If you look around the stores in your area you can sometimes find some deep discounts.

A Best Buy around here was/is selling the base 15" rMBP open box for $1600, not too bad.

I have bought open box items from BB several times. All were perfect. On one of them, I hit the jackpot: the rMBP had never been powered up, and the warranty started on the date I turned it on. The others were 6-10 weeks into the warranty.
