The question you must ask yourself is: do I really need a truck? If the answer is "yes", then next question is: do I really need a truck this big?

These are large, thirsty, heavy vehicles. Vast majority of people that purchase them don't need 'em. Do you want to be one of the posers? Also, $7K for a 9yo American vehicle with 150K is waaay too much. I would shop around and see what else is available.

No I'd buy a Ford Fiesta and rent a larger vehicle if I ever needed it.

Still trying to work out who these people are that need a giant boat like this as their daily driver.

Some people need trucks, some people don't. Why are there always a few elitist replies like this from people too short-sighted to see that everyone else's needs don't match their own? This forum and this forum only, as soon as I saw the thread title I knew before I opened it that there would be at least one such smartass reply.

IMO, the current Ram 1500 Sport is sex on wheels, and I'm not a truck guy whatsoever:

^^^Hard to argue with the look of that (I realize that's not what the OP is looking at.

That said, I think Ford made a huge mistake killing the Ranger; I still think there is a market for cheap, small trucks; every home could use one for those one off trips to the hardware store, or when the lawnmower breaks and needs to be taken in. By the logic that everyone needs a truck at some point to do something, it would actually make sense to have a truck if it was your sole vehicle, so that you never had to depend on anyone else. Not everyone needs 40 mpg either, I work 4 miles from home so driving a truck daily would not be an issue.

To the OP, if the vehicle has been maintained then sure, make an offer and pick it up. 150k on an American smallblock V8 is absolutely nothing.

I loved my wife's (at the time, girlfriend) Ranger. Got fairly decent gas mileage, too. I was pretty bummed when I learned that Ford was getting rid of the Ranger.

I agree completely with the above. I am not a ford guy, prefer GM products but that is beside the point.

Ford, GM, and Dodge (not that i would ever buy a Dodge) have gotten rid of the "small" trucks. The Ranger and S10/S15's no longer exist... and I am not sure Dodge ever had a truely "small" truck. I first drove around a 4x4 S10 Blazer and it was a great daily driver when I was in high school. I am now driving around a 98 S10 pickup with 92,000 miles on it. I bought it used from a lady who's husband had passed away. Got a good deal on it and the vehicle was in great shape. It is time for a round of maintenance on it and I am probably looking at about a grand worth of parts and labor to get done what I want to get done.

I don't work far from home so gas mileage is not a huge thing to worry about. I frequently load the bed of the truck with firewood during the summer months as I burn it for heat in the winter. I also get myself into home reno projects that require me to toss old drywall and the like so a small truck comes in handy for those situations.

I am considering. This truck is beautiful, inside & out. Looks very well cared for. They lowered the price to $7K from $7500. Thoughts?

Too much money for a nine year old truck with 150K miles. Vehicles depreciate the most in the first few years so I would probably look for something 4-5 years old with less milage. It will cost more but it is a better value.

I do 15k miles a year at least.
I would say as long as the vehicle has been properly looked after, serviced on time, no skimping when replacement parts are needed - so only OEM parts, and has a full history, I think it's fine.
Can't comment on price though, not sure how much they are worth in the first instance.

Guess it would depend on the trim package and the extra accessories... not knowing that, it's hard to say definitively one way or the other. I priced out a couple on KBB for my area and they came to around $7k, but I added quite a few things (power locks/windows, super cab, and so on).
