The excuse for glass back these days is that they want to sell licencsing for cases. I guess it wont be long before they just sell the internals in a wire frame to save money and tell you to go buy a case....

I'm also in the "wow, the 4, 4S was gorgeous" club...
Loved my 5, 5S, 6, & 6S; but the design was not NEAR as beautiful!
I'll take the risk of replacing the back, to rock an extra sleek & sexy looking phone for a year!! :0)

If it's the size of a 6plus, no. That's just too much glass. I liked it on my iPhone 4 but that was a small phone

I'm not sure at this point, would have to think about it. The biggest problems I have seen with iphones are broken screens, with glass on both sides the chance of it breaking just went up by having glass on both sides. You can put it in a case as I typically do but cases are not always 100% depending on height it is dropped from and how it hits. In other words a case would typically stop an aluminum case from bending or getting nicked, but glass MAY still break. Either way, naked or with case, the chance of it breaking are higher. I wonder if apple is not banking on more applecare + sales.

Again, not saying I would not just saying I would have to think about it.

One thought is if it was fully encased in glass that wasn't coated, it would be more scratch resistant.

For example I don't use protective covers on my drinking glasses. And they don't scratch.

So if it was real glass, and not some high tech scratch prone glass, then it would be fine.

Most stuff won't scratch gorilla glass, sand will. Most scratches are because small pieces of sand get into your pocket and scratch the glass. Since I can assume you do not carry your drinking glasses around in your pocket this does not happen.

Not trying to be a wiseguy, just that it's an apples to oranges comparison. Fingernails, keys, etc. are not what scratches them.

I would say someone that carries the phone in their pocket would be more likely as would someone based on where they live. Some get scratches, some do not.

Most modern smartphones use scratch-resistant glass on their screens, but every once in awhile you'll see that your phone still gets some fine scratches. XDA Developers nails down the source: it's not the change or the keys in your pocket, it's the sand.

XDA does a bit of experimentation with a number of Spigen screen protectors, which use tempered glass to keep scratches off your phone (not unlike the "Gorilla Glass" that coats most modern smartphones). They test it against keys, coins, sand, and other materials to see what scratches it the most. Surprisingly, most materials didn't leave a mark, but that hard, gritty sand that's floating around in your pocket—or on your desk, or anywhere else—actually has the potential to leave some scratches in your phone, showing us that screen protectors can still be useful. Check out the video above to see their tests in action (though close your eyes at the end, it gets pretty scary when she does the drop tests).

Wow, that's a massive assumption to make extrapolating only the rear materials.

That's like saying the Chevrolet SSR will sell well because it has 4 wheels, just like Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys.

She's a beaut, isn't she?:confused::confused::confused:
I'm not sure the ssr has the same brand image as an iPhone. I could be wrong though.

If the rumors are true, I cant wait.

Im on the non-S cycle which means I was due for an upgrade this year but I'll be skipping the 7 if the 8 is indeed glass.

I wonder why Apple devotees don't talk about this rumor, perhaps they fear that glass is too fragile. Maybe they think they can ignore it and it won't happen.

I believe Apple is capable of making a very nice iPhone from glass.

You're like a mental patient in a psych ward who claims to be the only sane one there.

Yep, I never understood the negativity behind the glass, I think the iphone 4 is one of the best looking smartphones ever made.
I agree.

A large glass iPhone 7 would likely be very beautiful. Especially given Apple's expertise with esthetics. I don't believe I would buy one, but it would be a gorgeous phone.

Droid Turbo 2 has a shatter proof glass, so why can't Apple do the same and save us some grief. I would buy it

http://blogs.wsj.com/personal-techn...2-tested-the-shatterproof-smartphone-is-here/
I had an opportunity to attend a Motorola sponsored event where we were invited to try a Droid Turbo 2. The demo included throwing the phone down onto the ground in an attempt to break it. Not only did mine NOT break, the surrounding case came away looking untouched.

I came away wondering how Motorola with its relatively small operation, could do what Apple can't. My guess is Apple could, but won't. Apple loves to brag about how they know what we want before we do... really Apple

I've already bought a Glass iPhone, the iPhone 4.

All it took was a bumper case. Dropped it a few times, never cracked. 95% of the people who get an iPhone will put a case on it, glass or not.

Glass (to me) gives the product a "premium" and nice feel to it. It's great.
