@gobikerider May I ask, what is the change you're looking for when they announce the new models?

I've been asking this myself, and I have some requests, I'm not sure if they'll be met, but here's mine.

2018 MB
Larger battery (always)
Improved thermals (also always)
At least +1 port, preferably on the other side
re-redesigned keyboard

Larger size (might be nice)

2018 MBP 13 TB
Larger battery
Improved thermals
Quad core chip, hopefully more efficient
re-redesigned keyboard
32GB ram option (so I can get 16GB without paying more)
Dedicated graphics
Thunderbolt on both sides

Strangely my list for the Pro is longer than the MB, despite me leaning more toward the Pro model. I'm looking at this as an upgrade that unlike many other computers, will hopefully be fairly future proof, as my MBA 11 has been. The price gap is not that much and the MB's improvements are so subtle to the MBA's, it doesn't seem worth investing in a a great sum of money into it, I'm staving off the future for far less time, and a very similar cost.
I do want a revised keyboard to fix the issues and quieter keys. I also would love a extra port, and better perfomance of course.

Is this MBA good enough for iOS and web development? I am thinking of getting one if there is another BB sale. I was thinking about getting one last week. I am also considering waiting for WWDC to see if new MBPs are released. Thanks for any help.

Here's the question, will you connect it to an external display? And if not, will 900p realestate be enough (on multiple desktops even)?

I would suggest the answer to those questions are Yes and then No, which means :S Based on my experience with my 11inch 2013 MBA, this thing couldn't do it, however, the GPU on the "current" 13 inch may be sufficient enough to use a 1440p display, certainly wouldn't believe much more than that, 4K I don't think so.

I was thinking of connecting it to an external 40" 1080P TV. I am thinking of replacing this TV with a 40" 4K TV very soon. I currently have a 2010 MBP 13 connected to this 40" 1080 TV.

I’m trying to decide if I want to replace a mid-2012 Air or upgrade the storage from 128GB to 256GB, if that’s even possible. I really want to stick with at least a 13” screen so the MacBook is out. Maybe a Pro is the way to go. I might be overthinking this but it feels like the laptop lineup is kinda confusing/overwhelming.

I can't recommend the MacBook Air at the "sticker" (regular) price. The technology is just too far behind for the price, in my opinion.

Tony28, I picked up a 13" Air 128GB at Best Buy for $699 a few weeks ago. Watch BB for sales if you are interested.

That is what I was going to do, but then I saw that the 256 gb wasn't much more, so I went with that. I ended up paying after taxes about $930. So not too bad.

I actually love it, especially for under $1,000.
does the non retina matter to you? I currently have a surface pro I’m trying to sell. Considered the Air since I could get enough out of the surface to buy an Air. But I’m a little hesitant about non retina. I wish the Air would remain but upgrade with a retina :/ (like we all do).

I mean, I would like it to have a retina display, but for the money I like it. It's not like I have a lot of eye strain or anything. IMO it is really a good little machine. I would suggest trying one out at best buy for yourself if you are really unsure. Although, next to the retina displays, you might not like it as much lol. The price was the main reason I bought it.

I have also seen a few people who have been writing about Apple rumors that seem to think Apple could be releasing a new 13 inch macbook, or an updated Air with Retina Display at WWDC this year in June.

The Air is my favorite computer ever and I love what it stands for. Go for it.

I was looking at them at the store the other day. The non-retina just isn't that bad.

I have a 13" 2013 Air. Still works great. The only issues I've ever had with it are lack of storage and the screen. I have 512GB but for me it not enough. I've learned to live with external drives but I wish I didn't have to.

The screen is ok, but I work on a retina. There is no comparison between the two.

I have vmware fusion and run VMs. Windows and linux. I don't think I've ever had to run two at once. At 8gb of ram I don't think it will be a great experience. You can look other technologies like Docker which could meet your needs of running multiple VMs should they ever arise. This is probably an extreme edge case for a college student. Besides, nowadays, if you really need to run multiple full blown VMs just do it on a cloud service like amazon or azure etc.

As said above, you're the only one who knows your price range and needs best. But for a student MacBook Airs are really popular as they can run most apps well and are affordable.
