Would you buy this Mac Mini configuration?

It uses the sam ram as the MBP so that would be ~$40 to go to 8gb.

Not bad but don't forget the iMac can have those specs for about $2000 if your willing to go that high.

If I was in the market for a mac desktop, that wouldn't look bad at all.

Yes but you have to keep in mind, the Quad Core Mini has only Integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics. Might as well go iMac 21.5 at that point.
