This is an easy one. Absolutely not. Dirty fingerprint screen, non-ergonomic, not useful. iPads are just held differently and serve the touch screen purpose, but even then they aren't as ergonomic without the trackpad.
I’m so used to using my iPad that now that I have a new MBP, I keep touching icons and not understanding why nothing happens. Yes, yes, yes, want a touch screen bad! Luckily I was in the Apple store yesterday and they cleaned all the fingerprints off the screen for me.
Once again...
Think about StainGate.
Think about the fragile sprayed-on anti-glare coating Apple uses.
Think about the effects of running one's dirty fingers across the display all the time.
The displays are easy-enough to damage right now, without being touched...

If Apple were to implement a touch screen in their notebook machines wouldn't that change the screen to be similar to that of the iOS devices wherein the issues you've mentioned are not present? There must be differences between the screens in notebook and handheld devices because my iPhone XR has tons of fingerprints on the screen but they aren't noticeable when using the device. I'll admit I'm not up to speed regarding the differences in the different display technologies, but it just seems that putting a touchscreen into a notebook with change the display such that it would remove the issues you've mentioned.
