Only issue I have w/ my iPad 3 is weight. Otherwise I enjoyed it completely. But can't wait to sell & get an Air.

Curious as to your reasons. I'm not feeling any strong pull to replace my ipad3 with an ipad Air. Sure, lighter and thinner is always a benefit, but not enough for me to plunk down the $500 cost delta.

Absolutely not true. I have iOS 7 on iPad 3 and it's actually working very well. It was very slugglish when I first upgraded but I swear a restart did wonders!

People like to pick on the iPad 3, well... guess what else got discontinued? iPad 4!

Sorry but lets be honest to the OP who is about to part with his cash - it runs terribly on iPad 3. Not only is it slow and jerky but misses the new lightning connector and misses key features such as airdrop.

The iPad 3 also had an overheating issue that was never resolved. Anyone who says iPad 3 runs iOS7 'great' is just delusional.

If you get the 3 you will regret it. People call it Apple's red-headed stepchild for good reason. Lay down the few extra quid and get a 4 , Air or even mini.

Believe me, ios7 runs terribly on the ipad3. The ipad 3 was a flawed product from the offset, I'm pretty certain it won't even be supported come iOS8.

If you must get a refurb, get an ipad4

This is just idiotic. Care to elaborate on how the iPad 3 was a flawed product?

Comments like this lol. Delusional? I have owned every generation iPad. Currently have a 4th gen, 3rd gen & mini in my home. I am typing this from a ipad 3. My 4th gen & 3rd pretty much run the exact same. Everything runs a lot smoother on iOS 7.0.3. My 3rd has never "overheated" perhaps I have a factory sleeper lol .

In that case I already had the 3rd gen, I would recommend getting the 4th refurb for $20 more. Unless you were buying from craigslist.

Yes I did and was so relieved to get rid of it 2 weeks ago.

Never overheated? It was a known problem and part of the reason it was discontinued after only 7 months to market. Although apple would never admit this

Idiotic? Lol - are you claiming that iOS7 runs well on a third gen ipad? Seriously?

Mostly weight, but faster proc & better camera also a plus. If I used it mostly resting on a table I probably wouldn't upgrade but I hold it most of the time. Everyone's situation is different of course.

If I were to buy a refurb now I would go for a 4 or mini over a 3, unless you can get a 3 at a drastically reduced price. The 4 has better tech inside and the mini runs really well without the retina screen.

As for all of this talk about the 3 running iOS 7 terribly, I can only relay my personal experience but I haven't had any problems on my 3 since I upgraded. My usage isn't that demanding but I haven't had any overheating or noticeable lag. It's still a great tablet.

It runs warmer than the iPad 2, sure. That's not overheating. Electronics tend to be able to withstand more heat than humans can. Overheating is when the device has to turn itself off to prevent damage to components (and yes, the iPads apparently have this safety precaution built-in).

That said, there are iPad 4 refurbs available and imho, they're definitely worth the few extra bucks over the iPad 3. The iPad 3 feels more like a stopgap measure so they can deliver retina on the March/April schedule. The increased RAM and improved GPU (note, CPU remained the same) wasn't quite sufficient to smoothly handle 4 times the pixels in all situations. No issue with ebooks, comics, web surfing and similar tasks. It's mostly the 3D-heavy games that suffered.

They used old technology (A5) in order to bring the Retina screen to the market before competitors. The A6 wasn't ready (and neither was Lightning) so they threw in an old CPU and an old connector (30 pin) when both would be replaced in just a few months (hence the iPad 4 was released only 7 months later).

I loved my iPad 3 but I am so relieved to get rid of it. It would be different if I had an iPad 4 but the 3 is just too underpowered. It lags just by browsing Apple's own website and even browsing the App Store.

I wouldn't say it was a "flawed" product, but it was definitely rushed so Apple could be the first to bring Retina to the market. Otherwise they would've waited for the A6 and Lightning to be ready in October and then released an iPad 3.

iOS7 works fine on my iPad3. FOr those not working well did you backup, then do a clean erase?

Yes Ipad 3 sluggy in iOS 7. I went to local store where they are selling iPad 4 and to me that seemed sluggy as well!

For me the lag is unbearable. Simply browsing Apple's own iPhone website makes it stutter and drop to its knees for at least a few seconds.
