While the S5 is discontinued, it's still available at many retailers.

I haven't seen any clearance sales yet, but assuming they're coming. Granted, with the SE at around $300, there would have to be a substantial discount of the S5.

Does the ECC and AOD features make it worth getting over the SE?

I have used the ECG feature maybe 2 times, and only for the novelty. The always on display on the other hand is a game changer. If you can find an S5 on clearance at roughly the same price as the SE, I’d go with the S5 for the display alone.

Frankly, I can’t imagine anyone would get a 5, when the SE is basically the same thing minus the ECG (honestly, not that useful). I think all the features of the SE are at least as good if not better than the 5. I thought they would make the 5 $249-$299, but in the end they made it an SE and split the difference. They probably spent 2M consulting dollars to come to that decision. ;-)

I am thinking about the same. SE in Poland costs 345 US and AW5 costs 438. Just thinking whether I need to spend 100 bucks more...

How will it be with speed?

The 5 has the always on display, to some that was a long awaited feature. I'm not a fan myself so I'd be fine with the SE, but I know lots of folks who like that.

The SE uses the S5 chip, so the speed should be the same I would think. I may be wrong, but it seems logical. If not the same, they should be damn close.

The SE has the same processor as the 5, so it should be same if not faster than the 5 due to "tweaks" in the chipset and the new operating system. So it should be on par with the 5 absolutely

It looks liek it does the same auto detect sports as in running and walking with no auto detect cycling? I ended up getting a garmin watch for my cycling as it does a much better job. it will connect to my cadence sensor it has a altimeter it keeps track of heart rate in real time and gives you more info on your workout. but I wish the apple watch would do much one watch would be nicer.

No always on display on the SE, so it depends how important that one is to you. I personally am enjoying not having to flap my wrist around to wake it up if I'm just checking the time.

If the SE and S5 cost the same I would go with the S5. Right now that's not the case and the S5's are not being discounted yet. I'm going to hold off buying the SE till after reviews anyway so I have time to see if the S5 comes back down.

yes, forgot about the AOD.. I didn't really find it too useful but some may. I think the SE is going to help apple increase the penetration of the AW over the next 6-9 months by 100%.

Another good point, I rarely buy when a new model is first released; 1- I like to see if there's any bugs needing to be worked out and 2- I generally wait and see what deals pop up around the holidays. Black Friday the last couple of years has been good for me here in the 'ol U.S.

Nike and Amazon are discounting various S5 models by $100 today.

On amazon at least it's only the rose gold that's discounted (329). The black and white is still 429. It seems silly to buy a series 5 for 429 when you can get the SE for 309. If you like rose gold though I would jump on that - and if the black goes back down to 329 I'll also purchase a 5 instead of the SE.
