NO!!! I had my phone in school once and forgot to put it on silent. Luckily nobody heard my text tone as blooming O2 sent me yet another text! I had to quickly switch it onto silent just as I got an email... That switched saved me!

As a long-time Palm user, if it doesn't have a mute switch, it's not a phone.

No, and I would like it add to the next iPad as well. I hate to have to hold the volume down for a few seconds to turn on mute, because when you want to turn the volume back on it starts at the lowest setting, so no I like the mute on the iphone4 just like it is.

Same here. I don't need a hardware screen-rotation lock. Just an on-screen button will do just fine. Give me back my mute switch!

Apple should not and will not do something just because some people with cases have a harder time. I can't even begin to think of how often I use it. Several times a day, at least. Can't imagine how annoying it would be to have to use the volume-hold-to-mute like the Ipad has instead.
