I was at a Apple store again Thurs, can’t say I more attracted to space grey over silver. Neither color lessened the quality of the display. Wednesday I saw both shadow grey and silver 16” M1 Max MBPs online locally at same Apple store for pickup and because silver seems even rarer while watching online availability over the last few days I went with silver.

I've found the opposite locally, usually when a new stock comes in both SG and silver are available, the silver takes longer to sell out, and silver is more frequently available in general. This is around Denver with 6 Apple stores within a 65 miles radius from my home.
Just repeating this as I think it was glossed over - Space Gray is more functional under overhead light or outside usage, it reflects less light. I always get it for that reason, despite liking silver more this time, despite SG showing scratches more readily... it's odd that it rarely gets mentioned in these discussions, but it's certainly a thing having lived w/ both silver and SG MBP pros at the same time and working outside frequently.
I’m digging the Space Grey. They both look so good. The silver picks up quite a warm tone. Which do you prefer?
That’s just my kitchen table.Nice photos! What kind of material are they sitting on?
Well in Apple’s home turf there are 12 stores closest to both campuses within 38 miles and a bunch more if I go a bit further outward from Cupertino as a comparison. Different demographics and population sizes compared to Denver. Last so many days I seen whatever comes in stock disappear extremely fast in stores looking online. Shadow grey is a bit reflective IMHO under very bright overhead store lighting which most don’t utilize , 2021 silver finish tends to brighten under same lighting, but my 2012 retina 15” MBP years later is the same it’s like silver lasts forever. Ether way don’t procrastinate if you want one in ether color for the holidays long exchange period.I've found the opposite locally, usually when a new stock comes in both SG and silver are available, the silver takes longer to sell out, and silver is more frequently available in general. Is the left space grey in both photos? Look so different.Took some pics last night and again this morning. Can't believe how different it looks depending on the lighting ?

That depends. My SG shows every bit of light colored dust. My silver 2013 MBP showed the darker smudges more easily. It's a matter of personal preference. Haven't noticed any discoloration. Personally I like Space Grey but had several older silver ones like MBP15 retina. I would say, with no real scientific basis, that the darker SG probably makes it harder to see dirt on it.
I say the opposite16 silver
14 space grey
Won’t explain, this is just how it goes ?
