Hi Guys,

I just got my replacement MacBook Air from Apple today, and unfortunately it appears to be dented!

I just wanted to post a picture of the dent and get some feedback from you guys whether or not I should return it? My gut instinct is to return it.

Apple does seem to have trouble shipping computers without significant dents, scratches or other damages that seem to slip through quality control.

If you fail to return it you're allowing Apple to get by with shoddy QC.

I returned my dented MBA and the scratched MBPR I got this year. Both inspected as I unboxed them in the Apple store, it saved me a trip back to the store, had I just trusted they were fine in their sealed boxes.

The mere fact that you're coming on here to ask suggests to me that you should return it. It's clearly bugging you.

Is there any other problems? Dead pixels, loose hinge or something else?

If yes, have the machine exchanged!

If not, ask for a new bottom cover! :)

Anyway, let us know what you do in the end

I would for sure, but only because I always sell my computers after 2 or 3 years and wouldn't want to have to explain it to the future buyer.

How do you prove to them they did it and not you?

They could say you caused it

because if you read the post he said he unboxed it in the store

very smart OP. I'm doing the same when mine arrives at the store, just top make sure it is undented

^ Nowhere does it say he unboxed it in the store.

Apple has pretty good customer service and unless there was more reason to suspect he did it himself, I bet they'd exchange it for him on the spot. This does make it important to get to the Apple store as soon as you can, though. Show up in a month complaining about the dent and they'll be a lot more likely to look at you funny.

Where's the dent?

Usually Macs are packed pretty well. What did the box look like?

The box had now visible damage on it, which is why I was surprised to discover the dent. I spoke with Apple this morning and they are going to issue me a replacement unit.

Not exactly fun to deal with when you have a custom configuration model though. It means I have to wait for a new one to ship from China!

I wouldn't return it, because you'll create your own dent just like in before long, but if it's bothering you, then go ahead.

I don't know what hell you put your laptops through but my 2008 Unibody be lookin' fine to this day. Mm!

If I opened a new product and it was dented, I would return it.

However, think of this ..... If you are the kind of person that places high value in a Samsung screen or SSD, you may check those components and see what you have.

If you have the screen / SSD you want, can you live with a dent???
