Is that because this is the most popular model?
Nah, it's because it's the cheapest model in the line-up. In general, you'd only get an extra $20-50 on resale/trade-in value for each capacity bump which is considerably less than the extra $100 they cost at retail.

Last September Apple and several other retailers offered trade-ins of older phones when the S & C came out. I believe we saw $200 for our 4s models at the point of sale.

To paraphrase Freewheeling Franklin: a phone will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no phone.

I agree. I wouldn't purchase a 5s now, with the 6 only a few months away.

Seconded. You will not lose much in resale value from now to September. By selling, you're going to have to either look for another replacement phone or forced to buy a 5S.

5S is pretty much the same speed as a 5 with a fingerprint scanner for average users so it's better to wait for the 6 and sell your 5 then.

I should add I don't intend to purchase the 6 this year as I never buy a new phone model until it has been out for a while, so we are talking 2015 here. Not sure how much difference that makes to the calculations.
