It's all well and good to say that one can use the appropriate gesture to go home, but that makes the phone more complicated to use.
The ipad, along with the iphone and ipod touch, are designed to be easy to use. They're supposed to be the sort of things a baby or grandparent can't use. Speaking of babies and grandparents, do you think they have the necessary finger dexterity to do the gesture?
The button is necessary.

I haven't used it since I bought XCode and enabled MultiTouch on my iPad.

So yes, I would give up the Home button.

>>Would you trade the home button for a larger display

this is a simplistic assumption.

if you remove the button, you can't expand the display to use that space without also expanding the display in the other dimension because the aspect ratio needs to be maintained.

i don't think the ipad needs to be bigger. if you make it any bigger, it becomes less portable, more unwieldy. the ipad is already one of the largest tablets out there.

ps. since i have multi-gestures enabled, i rarely use the button either.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; fr-fr) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

It depends they replace it with what.

I kinda like the home button idea but if Apple has a good way of replacing it (like multi-touch gestures) then I think it might be okay.

with ios 5 gestures, there's no reason why not. although i still want to be able to hold the ipad comfortably, so too thin of a bezel is also undesirable

i would trade...
however, i think the problem comes from the edge. Thin edge makes it hard to hold the ipad. So, the bigger screen, the thicker edge (or at least, the edge must stay the same) => larger screen makes the ipad much bigger! so the home button is no longer a problem!

I know the ratio needs to be maintained, it is a simplistic assumption, however removing the home button to put a bigger screen in place wont make the physical dimensions any bigger so it will be just as portable.

I hardly ever use the home button. Multitasking gestures are so much better

Don't need the home button, but I don't have need for a bigger iPad display. The current size is just right. There's no option for this in your poll.

what

this doesn't make any sense at all

The home button could as easily move as a side button on the right side of the phone.

I HATE borders and a elegant modern screen is one without borders. Apple is all about elegancy and modern so I have a feeling we will see their devices losing the borders soon.

And to answer the question yes I would trade the home button for a larger display.

Gestures is the way to go but it has to be done right.
The five finger gesture to go back home isn't so great.

Just like how you would swipe from the top down to for the notifications on the iOS 5, the Home gesture should be a swipe from the bottom up.

I could do without a bezel especially with the cool new multitasking gestures, but I would NOT want a larger display because the bezel is necessary for holding the ipad properly. If you do any reading or just spend lots of time holding the ipad up, you'll see that the bezel is thin enough as it is to prevent you from touching everything on the screen.

The solution I really want is the capacitative home button that relocates when you rotate the device.

Yes in an instant.

But then I love widescreen, and 99.999999% of the time use my iPad in Landscape mode unless an app forces me to use Portrait mode.

Most people use their iPads in Landscape mode also.

No. I wouldn't mind if the home button disappeared, but if the bezel were any smaller to make room for a larger display, I wouldn't be able to comfortably hold it with one hand anymore.

I like the idea and knowing Apple's brilliance I am sure they would be able to compensate for the lack of a physical button. :D

I am against any size change (physical). but I would love to have extra screen using same size. Most importantly any screen change must not affect HightXWedth ratio

So my answer to ur question: YES
