Since it's been five days since the $1.25 transaction, I went back to look at my Amex and the extra 25 cent charge dropped off, so that's good. Thanks for the info, guys!

Now to limit myself because the other vending machine has Twinkies... :p

does it do it if you just tap your CC? we have NFC readers on vending machines in Canada and it does not charge anything additional vs coin or bills

Nope. I have a co-worker that uses a Discover card that's got a chip, and it just charges $1.00 when he taps with the Discover card. Swiping CC is also the same, $1.

It looks like they put the 25 cent pending charge on both Google Wallet and ApplePay, but it falls off later.
