In the office I use a MBP. Have all my work stuff on it and all my personal stuff too like iTunes etc.

I now have the chance to have a MACmini too. Is there any point having that on my desk as well as the MBP? Can they connect up together or would it simply just be 2 different computers sat on my desk?

I do not do any tasks on them that is labour intensive but I would like to have it if they can work together as such?

Thanks

Buying a Thunderbolt dock might be a solution (even the TB3 docks should work with the adapter), so you can just connect one power and one TB cable to your MacBook and you're set it up for desktop use with an external monitor.

If you go with two different Macs - they can sync up pretty well via iCloud, so I wouldn't worry too much. There are still a few things that can't be synced fully automatically, like iTunes, though.

If you already have ONE Mac (MacBook) you like, having TWO of them is even better.

DON'T try to "keep the machines identical" in terms of software and what you have stored on them.

In other words, "let each Mac BE ITS OWN Mac", so to speak.

Do it this way, and it will be less trouble.
You'll quickly "sort out" what goes where, etc.

I used to have a 2 machine setup at work. I used to dedicate one (the less powerful one) to things like email and web surfing, and keep the other one strictly for work.

Assuming each computer has its own dedicated display(s), you could do something like this, to split up tasks among them. Makes you more productive, for sure.

Just like having one computer with multiple displays makes you more productive, so does having multiple computers (and multiple displays).

Cheers guys. I think I will use them both. I dont do any work thats too demanding but I think most of "work" will be on the MAC and keep the MBP for more personal bits etc?

Will have a play when back in the office, thanks again.

if money was no object, then I would love to have an updated 12" macbook and a 15" MBP, but I have two toddlers, so I won't be leaving any of my apple products sitting out. Sold my 12" 2015 RMB and got a loaded refurb 13" MBP. I use my 10.5" Cellular iPP for mobility now.

I have both a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini. I like it because they each serve their own purpose. I could've just connected my MacBook Pro to a monitor with a keyboard and mouse, but I wanted a proper desktop Mac. And my Mac Mini, spec'd as it is, fits my needs. My MacBook Pro goes most places with me, but at the end of the day, it's nice to sit down at my desk and use the Mac Mini, so I'm happy with the set up.

I have a mini and a MBP. I found that I never used the mini. So it is sitting in it's box as a display item on a shelf. When I need a desktop Mac I plug the MBP into an external monitor and keyboard.
