Wow. Apple Maps is a disaster.

I live in suburbia, not a rural area... and it's not just my address that is out in the wooded area, it's EVERYONE within a quarter mile that's pinpointed on the same exact spot.

I have yet to get dropping a pin give me coordinates. Instead, it chooses to give me random addresses from any of my supposed neighbors, which, when saved or shared, goes to that same useless point.... not that that would matter though unless I'm to start using lat/ long instead of my address.

I'm glad you don't feel a few hundred feet is a bother, but it is far enough to make location reminders (a feature I used to use regularly) completely useless.

Maybe I'm wrong here. But I can drop a pin in the woods, make it a new contact and then if I use that contact in location based reminders, it uses the pin"s GPS coordinates... The random address it assigns seems irrelevant, and the lat/ long are hidden, but still used. I don't add an address in reminders but the contact name. Doesn't that work? Sort of like marking a fake contact for where you parked your car at the mall, so that when you get to your car, you can remind yourself to get gas. I'm just suggesting you make your actual house a dropped pin and give it a name and not worry about the assigned wrong address.

Just curious how well location based reminders work for you. I tried it 3 times today. I also read a few articles, and a reference to Apple that the average accuracy is 500 meters. Depending up the type of LBS Apple uses, it can be better. I found it was spot on at my home, but at a store a mile away, it was off by 500 meters or more.

Still, that is close enough to remind me to do something with the reminder.

Anyhow, until Apple pays attention to your area, try assigning a contact to a dropped pin, it worked for me. The CheckMark app has good reviews, and a bit easier to do.

In my country- Lithuania, apple maps is totally a disaster. For example i drop pin on house with exactly address, then add to any contacts that address. Next time when i open those contacts location it is totally different, somehow messes :/ anyone also has this issue?

Yes I have the same problem, and would love to know how to fix it!

The area/ range used to fluctuate a bit, but would usually hit at the bottom of the driveway.

Now, I'm lucky if it registers at all (maybe 1 out of 4 attempts)...and when it does, the phone will usually be resting on a table after already home for an hour+.

As others have said (and you've now experienced yourself), dropping a pin does not work. It'll revert to the point it believes the listed address is, no lat/ long.

I recently moved to a rather small city and have Maps to thank for not getting lost in the month I've been here. It's not perfect mind you, but I was surprised that it found most of what I've searched for. The navigation has been most helpful and Siri's voice is more pleasant than Google's, in my opinion. Still feels incomplete, but until Google fixes their app, I'll continue using Maps.

Does anyone see any maps improvements in their region?

In Sweden I don't see much improvement where I live. In last few months I have seen just Malmö satellite image update. But still a lot of Sweden is in black and white which is disappointing.

Unfortunately there have been no improvements at all where I live, I have reported many problems VERY many times, nothing changed. I will not report ever again as it has proven to be a waste of time. I thought at first the maps attempt was okay for a first time try, but after all this time I have to admit it is not improving and by now even I have lost my faith in Apple's ability to get this off the ground.
They are now fighting a lost battle, if they don't get it right by the launch of iOS 7.

To me it seems that they prioritise mainly US and after it Japan, West Europe and Canada.

In fact they posted a lot of Ground Truth jobs in past few months, first it was managers and now they looking for experts. I think it will improve a lot by 2014 when they will hopefully add extra features to Maps and the way you report a problem.
I also hope that they will add a feature where you can submit roads and some other information rather than just POI and Names (just like in other maps).

Wow. Apple Maps is a disaster.

It is the sole map I use in the States. Been nearly flawless on the east coast from New Hampshire to Florida.

There are problems I reported the day maps came out that are still present, a year on.

I've just realised they've actually added some POIs that are no longer there and haven't been for years. So maps are getting worse! This is nuts.

They're still calling one of my local banks 'alliance & Leicester' even though it's been 'Santander' for many years.

Google took about 4 months to correct an error I sent in.

That's possibly more yelps fault, since they're pulling that from their data. How is it shown in the yelp app?

Yelp shows the restaurant that's no longer there, but it doesn't show the bank I was referring to at all. There are some other POIs that are correct in the Yelp all but not iOS maps.

Seems to be two camps here. Those that are more interested in navigation and those that are interested in POI.

The Nav is great here in the states. I use less the POI.

For me the Nav in the Apple maps is superior to Google.

What about the camp who doesn't care about navigation or POI? Those who simply want accurate maps, preferably ones that include parks, campuses, and bike paths, and are updated in a timely manner.

I live in the states, in the middle of the suburbs of NY, and my area has been wrong (in Apple Maps) since day one. Here we are, a year later, and all of the 'reported problems,' support cases, and visits to the stores have been completely ignored.

Those are POI in my book. Here in the east coast for road navigations, I'd say you are in the minority opinion. If a house is off by a few hundred feet, that not really an issue, and for the majority of my experience from suburbs of NY, rural areas of CT, mass and to Florida, it is working quite fine. The Nav experience is better than ios google maps.

Building footprints were just significantly expanded in Toronto.

Previously, the building outlines only covered about half the city. Now, they cover the entire city plus many suburbs.

So iOS6 and Maps were released a year ago and today we're getting iOS7. A whole year and I still don't see a single improvement in Finland. Even the most outrageous errors are still there.
