Is there anything I can do to improve my battery health?? I have had & been using it for little over 2 weeks, mostly on the charger, but every now & then I use it on battery (it's up to 5 cycles now @ 97% health), when I start using it on battery power should I run it flat before charging? Could it be because it's not properly calibrated or is it just that I have been unlucky & got a sh** battery?

Cheers

nah the battery health deviates alot. i wouldnt be worried about that at all... just run it to flat everytime u use it (or try to) and it will be fine. 97% is really good anyways

99% health at 18 cycles.. read and weep :p

I think my iStat Pro is wrong, because it says my battery is 100% after 632 cycles. The 632 cycles bit is true, but it does not have 100% health (more like 60%).
And according to coconutBattery, its original battery capacity was 4200 mAh, and now is 4399 mAh.

Hey Mr. B,

I have the exact same computer as you and I've already done some of the stuff you suggested: OnyX, ATIccelerator II. I'm wondering what else you did, as in what other specific scan and fix programs you used.

By the way, I spent several hours today tearing through my apartment trying to find my original iBook system disks so I could repair a problem with my hard drive that OnyX alerted me to. That has made a huge difference in how this computer runs.

Also: does ATIccelerator make your computer run hotter? Just curious. I can't really tell with mine. It's always been pretty hot.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Oh yeah, you wrote something about "New World Computing" for a battery. I couldn't find a site for them. You didn't happen to mean newegg.com did you?

Haha, whoops, I actually meant "other world computing".

Also my mac doesn't run too hot, although if left on my bare legs for a decent amount of time I will get a bit hot. But yeah, I pretty much just used Onyx to clean the caches, disk utility to do it's thing, and I manually cleaned up as much of the computer as I could.

wats ur battery life like>> in running time

Are you asking if *this* Macbook Pro will recognize >4GB in three years, or if the ones that are available three years from now will allow for that much memory? I'll go with no and yes.

I meant will the current macbook pro eventually be able to recognize more memory, the macbook can, and most old computers can, so I don't see why not.

I don't think it will be able too, because 4GB is the maximum for Santa Rosa.
Those reason that older computers could recognise more RAM than they were sold with is because when they came out, it would be insanely expensive to max out the RAM, so obvoisly Apple would not give you the option to do it.

Yeah, I think so too! But I still don't know why iStat Pro and coconutBattery say it has 100% health. Oh well. I should have a new battery in a couple of weeks.

My iBook G3 gets 15 minutes of battery life, if that. yet Coconut battery says I'm at 97% health after 438 cycles. Lousy peice of crap.
