WoW On External, Performance

Hey Guys,

Quick question. Got a 2010 13" MBP with the 320m. How good would performance be on an external running 16** x 10** or even 19** x 10** be?

Just a guess, but probably not that great. 1600 maybe OK, 1920 might really push it. You'll have to lower your settings in any case, not the very lowest but probably medium low (particularly view distance) and of course turn off full screen glow and death effect. I think this would work OK for PvE questing and adequate for 5-man dungeons, with a few slowdowns here and there. For raids you will have a lot of lag and it could be borderline unusable.

As I said just guessing though.

I run at native 1280 High its its smooth unless in in a raid, in which case I lower everything to low for 25 mans

Should be fine. The issue is more about your cpu than your gpu anyway. Just make sure to turn shadows to the lowest.

I used to play WoW on my MacBook with a Intel GMA 950 and it played just as well on a 24" HDTV as it did on the MacBook's own screen (surprisingly) so you should have no problems with your MacBook Pro and the 320m! As someone else mentioned, its always a good idea to keep shadows turned down!

It will run perfectly, the only thing that will take a hit is maybe some load times, everything else will be fine.

Wow ran decent on external (1680x1050) on my old MBP with 8600mGT, yours should be about the same

That's probably because your 24" HDTV was only slightly higher resolution than the MacBook's internal screen.

Still, the OP shouldn't have much trouble playing WoW at a higher resolution on an external display. Might just have to turn down some settings. My first-generation Macbook Pro 15" (first Intel laptop) could run WoW during TBC at 1600x1000 on Med to Low settings...
