After using that humongous 30-pin connector for years, this lightning cable is tiny, here is a pic I took next to a dime.

I just took that pic lol. Ive seen them online and stuff and knew they were smaller, but when I opened the package I was surprised.

I like it! :D

I also like not having to figure out which way it needs to go in. ANYWAY! :D

Half as thick though.

Thanks for the pic. :)

I was actually trying to look for one to see how close I can since I hadn't physically compared the two. For those used to the old cable it's incredibly tiny. For those used to micro USB, I bet they will hardly notice. It is nice that it can be plugged in in any direction though.

Why is it called lightning?

Likely because of their thunderbolt naming in their PCs. I suspect we will get faster data transfer rates at some point with an updated cable. If the standard lasts as long as the 30-pin did we are sure to see improvements.

Your right, I forgot these have chips in them which im guessing can be updated?

I just got three of these cables in the mail today. I ordered them as soon as they became available last week. . I logged on here to post the same observation. They are really small- which is great.

Based on all the picture id been seeing online, I guess I was expecting a much larger connector. Must have just been the out of context

The construction and materials seems very good/solid. Hope they remain this way. I know my much older 30pins from the early years are much better quality than the current versions.

I got mine today too and was shocked at how tiny it is. I don't know what I was expecting, but definitely nothing that small (twss). Made me that much more excited to actually get hold of the phone!

I doubt the actual cable can be updated, but you never know. I am pretty sure they are USB 2.0, which is quite disappointing, especially considering how expensive they are...

I just got my cables today too. I was also surprised how small they were. It's roughly the size of the speaker opening on an iPhone 4.
