yeah I saw it too

I honestly thought about bringing it up but thought not worth it! laughed I mean $400 extra dollars for a unlocked phone I know they are advantages legally unlocked vs hacked but it's not that big of a deal.

then again it's on sale you save $200 of regular price maybe I should order two.

A 1000bucks:eek:

IIRC buy.com was selling factory unlocked iPhone 3G for bout 800$ a few months back. And I thought that was ridiculous:rolleyes:.

BTW How much does it cost in France or other countries where Apple is forced to sell factory unlocked iPhones..?

There is a store here in Slovenia that sells unlocked 16GB 3GS for about 1100€ (1574$) and 32GB unlocked for about 1300€ (1861$) but I don't remeber the store's name now...I got it in Italy for 620€, unlocked 16GB.

Apple should just sell iPhones over the counter in there stores and premium resellers, unlocked you buy the phone then choose the carrier you want, out of the compatibly ones.

i just got this in my e-mail, cause i'm subscribed to buy.com

but, a thousand dollars?

you can get a macbook for that price. i really doubt it's worth that much, even if it's legally unlocked.

whats the big deal?

if you pay $200 for the phone, and sign a contract for 2 years ( lets say $50 per month)

right there, you're paying $1400 total.., thus you're losing $400 bucks..

I have a work phone, so they gave me a sim card with unlimited everything, so I bought a factory unlocked because I thought I would still have the warranty.. (not sure if unlocking the phone will void it or not)
plus, I didn't have to sign into another contract..

You americans are lucky yes. In europe, this 999$ is pretty much avrage selling price...

You can buy used 3G-s for 500$ atm and unlocked 3G S are like ~1000$

So if you buy an unlocked phone you don't have to pay for service?

Agreed, only a fool would pay that much.

Well not really. In the UK, the £'s pretty strong making that price quite attractive actually. Considering O2 wants £540 ($913) for that iPhone 3G S 32GB LOCKED to O2.

I'd happily buy that UNLOCKED for $1000 (£591). And I'm no fool.

So if you buy an unlocked phone you don't have to pay for service?

of course you do, but you get to choose what plan,

I know for example in canada, if you buy the iphone, you have to sign a 3 year contract..

it allows you to stay on your current plan, regardless of when it expires, and if you decide to travel, you can put a pay as you go sim card in it,

what I was trying to point out is that the $1000 price tag might look really expensive, but it allows people to have more "options" after they purchase the phone..

for example, my company pays for all my phone bills..

so here were my choices,

purchase an unlocked used phone that would have no warranty
purchase a $300 iphone 3gs with a 3 year contract (then I would have two phone lines, although one is free, useless for me)
or spend around a $1000 and have a phone that is unlocked, and I would still have a valid warranty..

I'm sure I'm not the only guy who has a company phone, and there are a lot of people who would think this phone would be a better choice for them..
