Big Honkin' Pool + Lots of People = Lots of Pee.

...the drawback here is that this isn't running water - if someone takes a leak in the pool, it doesn't get warshed away - and you can bet they don't drain the pool once a week to clean it...

Why so close to the ocean??

Ask anyone who has jumped out of the water at the mere whisper of the word "shark".

And it is being continuously being replenished, from the ocean.

You must have missed the note that water comes in at one end and goes out at the other, so there is water turn over. And, salt water is used in place of Chlorine to sanitize pools. And with oceans, there's more fish to "Pee" in the water than people. ;)

How long until the first sailboat-swimmer fatality? I can see it now, nice gust O' wind comes along, overly-zealous amateur Sunfish Skipper - oblivious child in path...

Looks like they have separate cordoned-off swimming areas. I imagine if you're out in the larger "lake" portion of the pool you're taking things more into your own hands.

its not your money is it? considering the fact that you and i are better off than the majority of the world's population, the same could be said why we dont give all our resources to charity instead of obtaining material things......like apple products for instance

I know, I know... But They could have just made a smaller, less expensive pool...

Exactly. It's not like buying a computer that you need (in today's Western society). This pool is beyond typical indulgence, and beyond superfluous.

Yeesh. It's not like Saudi Royalty buying 747s [edit: or A380s] as personal jets or anything. Clearly this pool is designed to serve thousands of people. On a scale of indulgence (where 1 is frugal and 10 is over the top) I'd rate this about a 6.

Wonder how long it took to fill it up...

To fill it up with this rig here - assuming the pipe is 3/4" and water pressure is around 60psi. (typical around where I live) About 16.5 years.

That is, of course, assuming that ZERO of it evaporates during that time period.
:D
