For all of you TechTV watchers out there...

"The 'Woz" will be on the ScreenSavers on Monday April 1st. Here's the blurb from the TechTV website:

* Steve Wozniak -- Apple inventor will entertain us with stories of the pranks and hacks he pulled in his wilder computing days.

Sounds entertaining, so set your VCR, Tivo or whatever...

I couldn't find the info on the site... is there a link?

Unfotunately, I don't get TechTV at my local cable provider...

TechTV might be worth the 31.99 for basic DirecTV alone.

Not really on topic with Apple, but I don't know why people are still getting cable tv service through their local providers. For less than the cost of basic, I can get DirecTV with 8 channels of HBO. Installation and equipment was free.

Anyone else getting hosed for cable tv?

many people are not allowed to get direct tv because of the dish. landlord wont allow it, neighborhoods dont allow it, or it is not available in their area. thats like saying why are all of you using cable or dsl for internet? satellite is much cheaper and much faster.

i pay $10 a month for cable so i dont think anything would be cheaper (unless... i stole it like so many people do...)

Yeah, but...

I think Woz is awesome. I've met him in person (tetris on the SciLi, http://bastilleweb.techhouse.org) and he's a really great guy. But....

Once you've heard him speak, it's disappointing to realize he says the same stories every time. While they're good stories, I wish he'd think up different stuff each time (or not storytell). Anyone else notice this?

In case anyone was interested...
Here's what transpired during the show -
Woz talked about his old "Dial-a-joke" hotline, practical jokes he used to play and his collection of odd phone numbers.
He mentioned briefly his new 10gb iPod.
He also mentioned, but wouldn't elaborate on, the work they're doing at Wheels of Zeus (WoZ)...he just said it's going to be very cool, and coming from this guy that's saying something.

Is it just me, or do you get the feeling that tech companies are trying to capitilize on the hype surrounding the Ginger? I mean, do you think that they are trying to get press by not saying what it is?

WoZ is as smart as the next guy, and I'm sure that he's a savvy business person. I'm also sure that he wants whatever he's making to make a big splash. It just seems to follow that he may be trying to generate speculation by getting his face seen but intentionally saying he won't say anything.

Hi, I have something really neat, but won't talk about it. Thanks for having me on your show.

Yeah, you can take it that way, but since he wasn't brought on the show to talk about his company I don't think he's trying to pull another Segway maneuver.

I agree. I have DirecTV as well (the full no-holds-barred $90 package) and what I get compared to the same-cost Cable is astonishing, even compared to Digital Cable (which seems to be a farce so far).

Any service that doesn't carry TechTV doesn't have a chance with me. I need my daily Leo Laporte injection to get through the day :)

NEIGHBORHOODS CANNOT DISALLOW DIRECTV!

I think he was probably referring to neighborhood associations that seek to keep community aesthetics up, in order to keep their property values up. The actual term for these rules eludes me right now, but they are real and people will definitely try to prevent you from installing a dish in their precious uptight neighborhood.

In preparation for Cable Companies trying to persuede Associations from making under-handed deals with Homeowner Associations, a LAW was passed several years ago that makes it illegal for any state, city, government or any other entity to prevent you from putting up a 18" Satellite Dish.

There are exceptions...

You must OWN the house, or your LandLord must approve.

The only other exception that I remember is if the home/area is legally classified as historic.

I am not a lawyer, but it merits investigation if you own your home and someone is trying to prevent you from putting up a dish.

They cannot do this. This is specifically what this consumer protection law provides protection against.

Homeowner associations have no say in the matter unless you are renting or the area is legally classified as historic.

Again, the law needs to be researched for the exact provisions. It's been a few years since I read it.

And... Sorry for the multiple posts. IE went nuts on me...

soo....umm.... how did ya like WOZ on the show? being that he was on already? i saw it. i wasnt impressed because they talked all about his pranks. that bores me....since i heard um all already. i wanted them to talk about other issues.

his "company"

he did talk about his secret company for a minute wonder if thats dinger inc. or somethin else. Still ur right his pranks can only be heard so much and are only so good. Still the nerd channels cool especially the screensavers But other then that the only good shows on tv r the fox shows (futurama, simpsons, king of the hill, and the lone gunman (why did they stop that is was the coolest)) oops off topic again.
