...suprise suprise no dice.

Running a dual 1.8 G5 with an airport extreme card to a NetGear DG834G wireless combo, enabling the WPA security works fine on my Mac as you'd expect.

Again as you'd expect my gf's Toshiba laptop running XP2 requires either 8 or 13 ascii characters, so correct me if I'm wrong I'm using a 13 character long password. I get no warning of the password being too short or too long but the connection attempt times out, attempts at updating the wireless drivers have led to no avail.

Any pointers? regards Christian.

Have you tried searching through Toshiba's online support pages? This sounds Toshiba-specific rather than a shortcoming in XP or Service Pack 2.

I've gotten quite a few XP boxes (w/ and w/o SP2) to work with 802.11g/b with WPA and WEP, without too much hassle. I will note that I've seen an odd tendency for XP boxes to periodically report an inability to get a good signal (they're not moving around either); but that's a completely different matter.
